A city man was cited after a gun incident he reported to police last week was found to be fabricated.
Charles E. Cherry III, 24, was cited for making false alarms on Monday.
Cherry had reported early Thursday that, during a discussion of a dispute in the 100 block of North Main Street, an acquaintance had pulled a gun on him and put it in his face, and then pulled the trigger. He said the gun did not go off, and that he took it from the man and tossed it away before fleeing.
There were no witnesses to the incident, and police found no gun in the area.
Maj. Tony Hetrick of BG Police said this morning that Cherry's claim, which he issued a written statement for, was false.
