The State Fire School at Bowling Green State University will hold the "Badges of Honor" 5K
run/walk on May 14 to honor two Toledo firefighters who died in the line of duty this year.
James Dickman and Stephen Machinski were killed while fighting a fire Jan. 26. Dickman had attended
classes at the school.
Registration and activities begin at 4:30 p.m. at Doyt Perry Stadium and the race starts at 6 p.m. The
fee for retired or active military, fire and police personnel is $15. The cost is $25 to race in the 5K
competitively, $20 for non-competitive runners. The one-and-a-half mile family stroll costs $10.
All proceeds will be used to establish a scholarship fund for State Fire School or Tech Rescue classes.

Coordinators are requesting that all rescue personnel wear their department shirt or name. Kids are
encouraged to dress up as their favorite superhero, real or fictional.
In addition to the race, there will also be an obstacle course for kids set up by the Fire Science and
Law Enforcement classes from Penta Career Center.
Registration is available online. The registration form can be downloaded from the State Fire School
website.
