An Oregon, Ohio, teenager sustained incapacitating injuries early this morning in an car-truck accident
on southbound Interstate 75 about four miles north of Bowling Green.
The Bowling Green Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol reports that at 1:50 a.m. a 2003 Ford Mustang, being
operated by Gage Edward Moreno, 17, was in the left lane attempting to pass a commercial tractor pulling
tandem trailers when he lost control on the snow-covered roadway, slid into the right lane and was
struck by the truck. The car went off the right side of the road and struck a snow embankment.
Passengers Tyler P. Preston, 15, Oregon, and Zachary David Ashton, 18, Toledo, were all taken to Wood
County Hospital for treatment, along with Moreno. Ashton and Moreno were wearing seat belts. Preston was
not wearing a seatbelt and sustained incapacitating injuries. He was later taken to Mercy St. Vincent
Medical Center in Toledo, where he was listed in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit this
morning.
The driver of the truck, Allen Rae Relitz, 53, Grass Lake, Michigan, was wearing his seatbelt, and was
not injured.
Alcohol and/or drug use did not contribute to the crash, which remains under investigation.
Moreno was cited for failing to maintain reasonable control and for operating a vehicle during restricted
hours, which is in violation of his probationary driver’s license.
