Dr. Joseph Inikori, historian and author, was the keynote speaker Friday at the 12th annual Africana Studies Research Conference at Bowling Green State University. Its theme was "Slavery, Colonialism and Africana Identities," and drew participants from BGSU, Kent State and Ohio University. Inikori spoke on "Transatlantic Slaving, Colonial-ism and the Historical Origins of Mutually Exclusive and Antagonistic Identities in Africa," with a special emphasis on his homeland of Nigeria. Honored during the luncheon was Mary Wrighten, assistant professor in the Africana Studies Program, who has organized the event each year but is retiring from the university. (Photo: J.D.
