OVI checkpoint planned for Wood County
The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced it will hold an OVI checkpoint in Wood County on Friday.
The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.

“Based on provisional data, there were 12,927 OVI-related crashes in which 394 people were killed last
year in Ohio,” said Lt. Angel R. Burgos, commander of the Bowling Green Patrol Post.
Troopers on average make 25,000 OVI arrests each year in an attempt to combat impaired driving. OVI
checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving, but to proactively remove these dangerous
drivers from our roadways.
The location of the checkpoint will be announced Friday morning.
Call #677 to report an impaired driver.
77-year-old took pellet gun into Walmart
A 77-year-old man received a warning for disorderly conduct after he walked into Walmart, 131 W. Gypsy
Lane Road, on Tuesday carrying a pellet gun.
The Bowling Green Police Division received two 911 calls shortly after 1 p.m. about the man walking in
the store openly carrying a firearm. Police located the man exiting the store with his rifle and a
plastic bag of ammo he had just purchased.
He said he had taken to gun into the store to determine the kind of pellets he needed.
When officers told him Walmart has a policy of no open carrying of firearms and there is a sign posted on
the entry doors, the man said he did not see it.
The man later called the police division and asked Lt. Dan Mancuso how best in the future to find the
type of pellets he needs.
Mancuso’s recommendation was to use a cell phone to take a picture of the barrel of the gun, where the
caliber is stamped, and take the phone with picture into the store.
