Bowling Green State University's Chapman Community at Kohl Hall participated in the United Way Day of Caring at Crim Elementary Sept. 12
More than 200 students and staff worked together on projects helping the school after its recent renovation. The major project involved students clearing spaces around the exterior of the school for plants and flowers. The students were able to lay landscape matting, plant flowers, and mulch each of the flower beds.
While most students and staff participated in outside projects, others worked inside the school placing wall decals of colorful trees and animals throughout the school. They helped decorate classrooms, the guidance counselor's office, the administrative office, and the teacher's lounge, making the spaces warm and welcoming for students and staff.
"It was great to see all of the students working together on these projects," said Nick Kulik, director of United Way in Wood County.
"Having BGSU, Bowling Green City Schools, and United Way work together is a great example of what school-community partnerships can look like. We were glad to be part of this project."
Crim Elementary was just one of many United Way Week of Caring projects that occurred throughout Wood and Lucas counties last week. Altogether, 1,500 volunteers from 46 organizations served more than 5,600 hours in one week.
Any company or group interested in organizing a United Way Day of Caring can contact United Way in Wood County at 419-352-2390.
