WALBRIDGE - As part of the upcoming celebration of the Centennial of Walbridge, a public Renewal of Wedding Vows event will be held June 8 at Grace Bible Baptist Church, the oldest church building in the village.
It is located at 116 E. Union St.
Current pastor David Stogsdill and the Walbridge Centennial Committee invite any Walbridge area couples to come and renew their wedding vows in a special centennial year ceremony set for 11:45 a.m. There is no cost to participate.
Couples may dress as they wish - in their wedding day attire, dressy or regular attire - and may bring family or friends to witness.
Participating couples will receive a certificate of renewal.  Refreshments will be served.
Those planning to renew vows may contact the Walbridge Centennial Committee at their website -  www.walbridgecent.com; leave a message at (419) 913-3719, or e-mail:  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The first church in Walbridge was founded in 1869 by some early settlers. It was organized in 1887 as Union Church, which was incorporated in 1888.
The original building was erected in 1889-1890 where United Brethren and Universalists worshiped.  The timber came from land owned by the settlers.  The church has been remodeled over the years, with a major renovation a half century ago, in 1957.
The name "Grace Church of the United Brethren in Christ", Walbridge, Ohio was recorded in 1957. "The Grace Church of the Evangelical United Brethren Church" (EUB) was incorporated as of June 21, 1958. In 1968, the EUBs merged with the Methodists and the church became known as Grace United Methodist Church.
In 2005 it was bought and became the current Grace Bible Baptist Church, still at 116 E. Union St.
The wedding vow renewal is one of several planned events leading up to the village's major centennial celebration July 4-6.
