The conference will take place at the Hilton Garden Inn at Levis Commons from Thursday to June 30.
National President Leann Lemle will be in attendance. Her theme this past year has been "Serving from the Heart For Our Veterans." During the year, Lemle has focused her attention on female veterans, youth scholarships, and support of our national military services in particular.
A resident of Iowa, she was elected national president of the auxiliary to the VFW at the organization's 99th national convention in Reno on July 25.
Lemle's participation with the VFW dates back to childhood. She was a Junior Girls Unit member and joined the Ladies Auxiliary in 1964 on the eligibility of her father, a U.S. Navy Seabee during World War II. Her family has always been very involved in the VFW and its Auxiliary, with her brother a VFW life member with Vietnam eligibility, a son and stepson VFW members with Iraq eligibility, and two daughters-in-law and two granddaughters as Ladies Auxiliary members.
She has served as auxiliary president, district and department president, and as national chairman for the Big Ten Conference on the Safety, Veterans & Family Support, Buddy Poppy, Junior Girls and Americanism programs. From 1997-99 she served on the National Council of Administration representing Iowa and Wisconsin.
Prior to retirement she worked in accounting and office management for ADM Elevator, Sweetheart Bakery, Peter Pan Bakery and Aldi Inc. She has four sons, eight grandchildren and three great-grandsons.
The current president of District 1, which is hosting the 2013 state conference, is Kathy Oldham. A Wood County resident, Oldham is a member of the Bowling Green-based Paul C. Ladd VFW Post 1148 Ladies Auxiliary.
