Scleroderma is a chronic, degenerative autoimmune disease that predominately affects women in the prime of their lives, but can strike children and men as well. It is characterized by a hardening of the body's connective tissue due to an overproduction of collagen. This painful, life altering disease can be fatal in its most severe forms.
There are an estimated 300,000 cases in the United States. There is no known cause or cure.
The Scleroderma Foundation Ohio Chapter helps patients and their families cope through mutual support, programs, peer counselors, physician referrals, education and research support.
