Moms enter free on Mother's Day at the zoo
TOLEDO - On May 12, which is Mother's Day, the Toledo Zoo will offer all moms free zoo admission when accompanied by one or more children.
There will be free flowers, while supplies last, and activities in Nature's Neighborhood from 12 to 3 p.m. The Mother's Day celebration is sponsored by Meijer.
In addition, the zoo hosts a full-service Mother's Day brunch in the Nairobi Pavilion, near the Africa! exhibit. Times, prices and menu details are at toledozoo.org . The brunch fills fast, so early reservations are necessary. Call (419) 385-5721, ext. 6001.
The zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Starting this Saturday, weekend hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is located on the Anthony Wayne Trail (U.S. 25), four miles south of downtown Toledo.

Moms' brunch Saturday
FOSTORIA - The Fostoria Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting an "It's all about MOM" Mother's Day Brunch this Saturday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the city's historical Masonic Center, which is about to celebrate its 100th anniversary.
The brunch menu includes breakfast casserole, hashbrown casserole, bacon, fresh fruit, fruit Danish, muffins, coffee, tea and orange juice. Prices are $10 for adults and $5 for children up to age 12. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the chamber office at 121 N. Main St., Fostoria. (419) 435-0486. They will also be sold at the door.
The Fostoria Farmer's Market will be going on Saturday as well.
J.C. Penney ad apologizes
NEW YORK (AP) - J.C. Penney is sorry and it wants your business back.
That's the gist of its latest ad, a public "mea culpa" which the mid-priced department-store put on its YouTube and Facebook pages.
The ad, titled "It's no secret," shows shots of women working, playing with their children and doing other everyday activities.
"Recently J.C. Penney changed," a voiceover states. "Some changes you liked, and some you didn't. But what matters with mistakes is what we learn. We learned a very simple thing, to listen to you."
The ad comes after the Plano, Texas-based company last month fired its CEO, Ron Johnson, after 17 months on the job and rehired his predecessor Mike Ullman.
Johnson's ambitious changes included getting rid of most sales and bringing in new, hip brands. The strategy was designed to attract younger, wealthier shoppers in a bid to reinvent the stodgy retailer, but it alienated Penney's loyal customers and caused sales to plummet.
"Come back to J.C. Penney. We heard you, now we'd love to see you," the voice-over states.
