BGSU’s Lee to speak on limits of marriage
Dr. Gary Lee will explain "The Limits of Marriage: Why Getting Everyone Married Won’t Solve All Our
Problems" in his Arts and Sciences Distinguished Faculty Lecture on Thursday.
Lee’s talk will take place at 4 p.m. in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union Theater at Bowling Green State
University. Admission is free and open to the public. A reception will follow the lecture. Students,
groups and classes are encouraged to attend.
Lee is working on a book about the causes of the declining marriage rate in the United States and is an
expert on family sociology and the sociology of aging. His recent projects focus on the precedents of
aging parents living with their adult children, and the different psychological consequences of
widowhood for men and women.
Lee came to BGSU in 1996, serving as chairman of the sociology department until 2013. His research has
been funded by the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Institute on Aging.
