Celebration of Women Festival is Saturday at Lourdes
SYLVANIA - In honor of National Women's History Month, Lourdes University will host the 6th annual W.A.V.E. (Women, Artists, Visionaries, Entrepreneurs) Festival on Saturday. This year's event will be held in the Franciscan Center from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is free and open to the public.
Created as a way to celebrate the successes and accomplishments of women throughout the region, W.A.V.E. is a juried indoor exhibition and sale of fine arts and crafts such as ceramics, fiber arts, jewelry, pottery and paintings. This year's festival will feature work from more than 60 exhibitors.
Entertainment will be provided by the following performers:

Ousted Scout mom joins Ohio same-sex marriage effort
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - An eastern Ohio woman ousted as a Cub Scout den leader because she is a lesbian has joined the effort to overturn the state's ban on same-sex marriage.
Leaders of pro-gay-marriage group FreedomOhio said Jennifer Tyrrell will help with its outreach efforts.
Tyrrell, who lives in Bridgeport, was removed as den leader last April.  She says she knows the feeling of having rights denied.
FreedomOhio wants to overturn the 2004 state constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. Supporters started collecting signatures last year to place their own constitutional amendment on the ballot either later this year or in 2014.
The measure wouldn't require churches and other religious institutions to perform or recognize gay marriages.
The amendment banning gay marriage was supported by 62 percent of Ohio voters at the time.

Worker admits cutting 10 babies at abortion clinic
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A medical assistant admits she cut the spines of at least 10 babies during unorthodox abortions at a Philadelphia clinic.
And she says Dr. Kermit Gosnell did the same to terminate pregnancies.
Gosnell, the clinic owner, is on trial for murder in the deaths of a patient and seven babies.
Prosecutors say he killed late-term babies after they were born alive, in violation of state abortion laws. Gosnell's lawyer denies the murder charges and disputes the gestational ages, calling them inexact estimates.
Employee Adrienne Moton says she took a cellphone photograph of one baby because she thought he could have survived, given his size and pinkish color. She had measured the fetus at nearly 30 weeks. Jurors saw the photograph Tuesday.
Moton, 35, sobbed as she described her work at the clinic. Because of problems at home, she had moved in with Gosnell and his third wife during high school, and she went to work for him from 2005 to 2008. She earned about $10 an hour, off the books, to administer drugs, perform sonograms, help with abortions and dispose of fetal remains. Workers got $20 bonuses for second-term abortions on Saturdays, when a half-dozen were sometimes performed.
Moton has pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and awaits sentencing.

National Women's History Month. Like anyone notices at all... We have national days of remembrance for so many and yet no day set apart for Susan B. Anthony and Catherine Stanton. Why not?
