BGSU's Mazey speaker for Perrysburg League luncheon
PERRYSBURG - The Perrysburg Area League of Women Voters will hold its annual meeting May 21 at the Carranor Club, 502 E. Second St. Lunch will be served at noon.
Guest speaker for the event will be Dr. Mary Ellen Mazey, president of Bowling Green State University. Mazey began her duties at the university in March of 2011. Prior to taking the helm at BGSU, she served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Auburn University from 2009 to 2011. She and her late husband, Bruce, are the parents of two sons. She also has several grandchildren.
Prior to the luncheon the annual meeting, for members only, will be held from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. in the Aiken Room. New officers will be elected at that time.
The public is invited to the luncheon and may make reservations by contacting league President Carol Russell at (419) 931-4416.
Tickets for the luncheon are $17. The reservation deadline is next Wednesday.
'Making Strides' 5K Saturday at Levis
PERRYSBURG - The seventh annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K Walk will return to Levis Commons on Saturday.
The event drew 4,000 walkers in 2012 and raised more than $115,000 for cancer research across the country. The 2013 goal is 6,000 walkers and $126,000.
Registration for the non-competitive walk will take place at Levis Commons at 8:30 a.m., with the walk beginning at 9:30.
The route will include three one-mile laps, taking participants past the clock tower to Owens-Illinois and back. Wheelchairs, wagons, strollers and walkers are welcome. No pets or bicycles will be allowed.
There is no registration fee. A limited number of event T-shirts are available for $15.

Crossroads Quilters to meet
NORTH BALTIMORE - The Crossroads Quilters will meet on Tuesday at St. James United Methodist Church, 201 S. Second St.
The business meeting begins at 10 a.m., followed by show-and-tell. Quilters will then go to Crossroads Caf√© in North Baltimore for lunch.
Anyone interested in quilting is welcome to attend. First-time visitors are not required to pay $2 per meeting dues. For more information call Esther Nagel at (419) 669-2226.
Singles dance Friday
HOLLAND - Glass City Singles will host a dance party this Friday from 8 p.m. until midnight at Holland Gardens, 6530 Angola Road.
The dance is open to area singles 21 and over, with admission $8. There is a Mother's Day celebration theme.
