Cygnet, Grand Rapids men named winners in food product contest PDF Print E-mail

GRAND RAPIDS - Northwest Ohio is rich with signature products developed locally, and some even enjoy being recognized regionally and nationally. The Center for Innovative Food Technology (CIFT) sponsored the 6th Annual Food Product Development Contest which showcases many new local products ready to take that next step - actual product development.
CIFT's vice president and director of agricultural programs, Rebecca Singer, announced the two winners selected in recognition of their product concepts:
• Reverend T's BBQ Sauce by Anthony Brubaker of Cygnet;
• LaRoe's Poppy Seed Dressing by David LaRoe of Grand Rapids.
"With a blend of Kansas City and Memphis-style barbecue sauces, the bold spice blend featured in Reverend T's BBQ Sauce has a unique taste all of its own," Singer praised. "The sauce was inspired through a few special ingredients to give it an uncommon, understated taste."
Describing the second winner, she added, "This high quality poppy seed salad dressing made at historic LaRoe's Restaurant in downtown Grand Rapids, has been a long time favorite of guests. Known for its versatility, the dressing can add a nice 'kick' to veggie or fresh fruit trays."
Announcement of the two winners was made at the restaurant on Front Street, with between 30 and 40 people present for the event.
The process began this spring with submission of written applications.
