County library to host author events and book groups PDF Print E-mail

The Wood County District Public Library in Bowling Green has a full calendar of book groups and author events for adults slated during April.
On April 2 at 10:30 a.m. the Read for Inspiration book group will discuss the book Gods & Kings by Lynn Austin in the second floor Reading Lounge.
On April 7 at 7 p.m. the Monday Mysteries group will discuss Rumpole and the Penge Bungalow Murders by John Mortimer. The meeting will be held in the Carter House.
There will be a Local Author Fair on April 12 from 1- 4:30 p.m. in the atrium and second floor.
The public is invited to meet local writers, attend sessions on children's literature, self-publishing, memoir-writing, and comic books. Participating authors are Bowling Green's Jean Ann Geist who wrote "Only on the Radio" and "Only in the Movies"; Rona Klein; Larry Nader; and Lois Sonnenberg, author of "Grave Tales: A Mother Goose Spoof."

The two surviving charter members of the Wood County Hospital Guild, formed in 1954, are Norma Barr (left), 88, and Mary Myers Fuelber, 95, (center). They are joined by Laurie Newlove, the hospital’s current director of volunteers, during the organization’s festive 60th anniversary celebration held Monday afternoon in the hospital atrium. Barr and Newlove are mother and daughter and all three women are past guild presidents. The event doubled as a fundraiser for the hospital. Over 100 area residents and medical professionals present learned the guild is about to launch a multi-year project to raise $100,000 in support of the hospital’s new Cancer Center.

Rick and Marsha Nelson, Luckey, together with Duane Peters and Tricia Peters, Pemberville, announce the engagement of their children, Erin Leigh Nelson and Lance Corporal Haiden Alec Peters.
The bride-to-be, a 2012 graduate of Eastwood High School, is currently a junior at Ohio State University majoring in agriculture business.  She is employed at OSU’s Ag Engineering Dept.
Peters, a 2012 graduate of Penta Career Center and Eastwood, is serving in the United States Marine Corps as an airframe mechanic. He is stationed at Camp Lejeune, Jacksonville, N.C.
They plan a May 24 wedding at Zion Lutheran Church in Luckey.

ANNIVERSARY: Willard & Eloise Brinker PDF Print E-mail

Willard and Eloise Brinker, Pemberville, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary at an open house on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Luckey American Legion Hall.
They were married March 21, 1954 in Dunn, N.C., near where Willard was stationed in the Army at Fort Bragg.
He retired from B&R Mills, a family-owned alfalfa dehydration business in Perrysburg. Eloise Brinker retired from the admitting department of Wood County Hospital.
They have three children, Teresa (Ken) Bailey, Kenneth (Gail), and Wynn (Jan); eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The Brinkers are members of Salem-Grace United Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Troy-Webster legion post at Luckey.

HASKINS - There are countless food-borne illnesses that could be avoided through better handling, processing and storage of food.
In order to reduce the number of cases, the Center for Innovative Food Technology (CIFT) will host a food safety seminar on March 29 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Northwest Ohio Cooperative Kitchen (NOCK). It is located at 13737 Middleton Pike/Ohio 582, two miles west of Ohio 25.
Food-related business owners, aspiring entrepreneurs, and those who are producing a product to sell at markets or other retail establishments are invited to attend.
Food safety expert Shari Plimpton, Ph.D., vice president and director of food industry at CIFT, will discus the fundamentals of proper production practices, sanitation and hygiene practices for a safe, high-quality product. An introduction to the basics of hazard analysis and critical control points as a way to identify and prevent contamination of food will be included.
