Local attorney Diane R. Huffman is a recipient of the 2013 Women of Achievement Award at Heidelberg University, recognizing successful women in northwest Ohio.
The award was presented during the Celebrating Successful Women event held April 12 at the university in Tiffin.
Huffman, a leader in the Wood County community for many years, has been practicing law since 1982 and is a partner in the Bowling Green firm of Spitler-Huffman Law, with offices at 131 E. Court St.
She was honored with the National Athena Award in 1992 and was selected as Bowling Green’s Outstanding Female by the Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce in 2000.
Huffman has served on a number of health and social service-related executive boards in northwest Ohio. Currently, she serves on the Wood County Hospital Board as well as the Falcon Health Center Board, overseeing the student health center that is about to open at Bowling Green State University. She is also chairman of the Franciscan Living Communities Board which oversees several facilities, including the new one presently under construction on Five Point Road and U.S. 25, south of Perrysburg.
In addition, she has served on the executive board of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) which supports volunteer advocacy for area youth who may be abused or neglected.
“There’s not a more deserving person I know,” noted local real estate broker Cathy Newlove Wenig, in nominating Huffman for the award. In addition to the board positions, Huffman has volunteered with many church and civic groups and become a friend and mentor to many over the decades.
She is one of six women honored for 2013. The others: Leigh Esper, executive director for The Arts Partnership in Findlay; Anne Martin, manager of human resources at National Machinery in Tiffin; Deb Martorana of the Seneca Regional Chamber of Commerce; Sheri Murphy, director of Hancock Leadership; and Jane Rahe, assistant vice president of Fifth Third Bank.
