A ceremony to honor 50-year members, a special donation to the March of Dimes, and the induction of new members highlighted the final meeting of the Women's Club of Bowling Green May 5 at the club's annual May breakfast.
In her opening remarks, President Norma Stickler spoke of the accomplishments of the club and members during the past year. She cited the presentation of two scholarships, a "spring bling" tea, writing contest for school students, assistance for a number of community organizations, and state offices which were held by members.
Stickler presented 50-year pins to Marilyn Pahl and Camille Harris, who both joined the club in 1962. The two have been active as club officers and committee chairmen. Each has served as club president. During the past two years, they served in state positions - Pahl as parliamentarian and Harris as fundraising chairman.
Joan Gordon received a 25-year membership pin. She has been a member since 1984.
The March of Dimes, a special project of women's clubs nationwide, received a check for $2,350.60 from the club. The funds had been collected, dime by dime, in a project chaired by Evelyn Bachman.
Becky Bhaer, membership chairman, installed new members Edie Olds, Ginny Smith, Mona Jhuremalani, Deb LeGalley, and Becky Schooner-White. They each received a lavender plant as a gift.
The club's Elma Zelman Music Scholarship was presented to Esther Darmahkasih, a Bowling Green Sate University student. She presented several vocal selections, accompanied by Cheryl Crows, also a BGSU student. The scholarship was presented by Donna Schmidt, club music chairman.
A drawing for a stuffed lamb was won by Barbara Klopfenstein. Participants in the drawing were members who had contributed to the Heifer project during the year. Linda Kuhn, International Issues Community Service Program chairman, conducted the drawing.
Bachman was recognized for her service as Ohio president during the past two years.
Several members displayed watches which were antiques or had sentimental value to them, keeping to the theme of the meeting, "What Time Is It."
Barbara Klopfenstein gave the inspiration. Members of the social committee were Angie Bradford and Denise Niese, co-chairpersons, and members Klopfenstein and Martha Moon.
During the summer, the club will have a fund-raising project in July and a yard sale in early August. The club's next meeting will be Sept. 5.
