Melanie Boulis
PEMBERVILLE - Melanie Boulis, a Pemberville native, Eastwood graduate, and author of the book Between Heaven and Healing, will be returning to Pemberville this Saturday to give a short program about her book. It will begin at 1 p.m. at the Pemberville Public Library.
Boulis, the former Melanie Aufdenkamp, is looking forward to the opportunity to return to Wood County and perhaps see some old friends. Following the talk, her book will be available for sale and she will sign copies for those interested.
The cover blurb explains the inspiration for her work: "As soon as two doctors asked Melanie Boulis if she would like to sit down, she knew something was wrong. Still, she remained standing. But when the doctors showed Melanie the slides from her 12-year-old daughter Danielle's MRI, she immediately lowered herself into a chair, numb from shock and disbelief. In an instant, Melanie's world changed forever. Danielle had brain cancer."
After Danielle was diagnosed with a large tumor on her brain stem, Boulis reveals how she and her husband, Kevin, began a journey through countless tests, surgeries, and treatments focused solely on their child's grim medical situation. As the news transformed from bad to worse, Boulis tells how the couple gained strength through their faith and learned to trust God's plan.
Between Heaven and Healing shares the inspirational story of a young girl's journey through terminal cancer and her parents' eventual realization that faith is not knowing why, but still believing in an eternity where where cancer is nonexistent, "and where there will be no more tears."
The author hopes her book will help others who have also suffered a loss.
Boulis currently lives in Bryan and is a library assistant at the main library there. Her husband is the pastor of First Assembly of God Church in Bryan. Their son Levi is a high school senior.
This is Melanie Boulis' first published work, but she has since begun work on a piece of fiction. At her church she leads worship, works with the food pantry ministry, and teaches a weeknight class. Boulis also enjoys reading, baking, scrapbooking, playing piano, and singing. She hopes to learn how to play Danielle's guitar in the near future.
For those unable to attend the book signing, Between Heaven and Healing is also available for purchase online at and at in both paperback and e-book forms.
