66th Bechstein family reunion held in BG PDF Print E-mail

Beth Nagel welcomed 193 family members and guests to the 66th annual John H. and Jessie A. Bechstein Family Reunion held Aug. 11 at the Wood Co. Junior Fair Building in Bowling Green.  
The family members of Sam and Estella Chamberlain served as hosts for the reunion.   Barbara Dierksheide prayed the dinner prayer.
The family of Carl and Gertrude Bechstein had 34 family members present, Sam and Estella Chamberlain family had 24, Perry and Pauline Bechstein had 23, Helen and Lawrence Wilhelm had 21, Loren and Ida Roe had 21, Newton and Eileen had 19, Emma Dierkshiede Abke had 13, George and Mae had 12, John and Mary Jane had nine, the families of Ira and Lucy and Ivan and Joan had six each, and the families of Loren and Ellen and Ray and June, five each.
Out of state family members who traveled to attend this year's reunion were: Gerald Bechstein, St. John - Virgin Islands; Leo and Patty Bechstein, Santa Barbara, Calif.; Elissa Koch, Charleston, S.C.; Earl and Mary Summerfield and Nancy Watts, St. Roberts, Mo.; Danita Chamberlain, Rocky Mount, N.C.; Marilyn Roller, Godfrey, Ill.; Karen, Nora and Alice Westrate, St. Louis; and Craig and Christine Roe, Detroit.
Seven 4-H Camp Palmer scholarships of $50 each were awarded to Tyler and Mackenzie Shaffer, Cole Bechstein, Sydney Grames, Madison Morlock, Marissa Langley, and Trevor Hennan.  Ben Wilhelm served as a camp counselor again this year. The family will again sponsor 2014 4-H Camp scholarships up to a total $300 from the Chinese Auction funds.
The Bechstein Family Cookbook 2014 will be published and will include family recipes which are "Bechstein signature" recipes at our annual reunions and family gatherings.  The cookbook is available for sale at $15 per book.  As an added feature the cookbook will include stories about families that have been shared and handed down to future generations.  There also will be a genealogy section. Send recipes to Jan Warner, Barb Whitman, or Deb Bechstein.; and genealogy to Darline Weaver or Danelle Langley.  Deadline to send in recipes, stories or genealogy is February.
Four births were recorded.
There were two deaths in the past year: Loren Franklin Roe, 89, of Weston, and Barbara Joyce (Wright) Chamberlain, Custar.
Four marriages: Emmajean Bechstein to Warren Cook, Adam Coe to Sarah Peltier, Emily Knapp and Brian Bechstein, and Greg Bechstein to Kami McIntire.
The Chamberlain family members led the day's activities and games and served ice cream.
The 67th Bechstein Reunion will be held Aug. 10, 2014 at the same site, with a potluck at noon.
Reunion officers will be: President, family members of the late John and Mary Jane Bechstein; secretary-treasurer, Darline Weaver.
