577 classes: Grow mushrooms, make soap, paint on iPad

PERRYSBURG – The 577 Foundation at 577 E. Front St. is offering a wide variety of adult classes during
the month of April.
The full list includes:
• Wise Wizard – Tuesday from 6-8 p.m.; $35 fee. Carve a wizard from a rough out blank. Beginner &
experienced carvers welcomed.
• Craps Casino Style – Thursday from 5:30-7:30 p.m.; $10 fee. Learn the basics of the game of craps by
hands-on playing. Explore the table layout and learn the various odds of each bet.
• Lebanese Light But Hardy – Friday, April 4 from 1-4 p.m.; $20 fee. Make Mjadara, a lentil protein dish,
made with rice or cracked bulgar and caramelized onions; Hummus, a Middle Eastern dip used as an
appetizer; cabbage salad and cheese bread.
• Wet Felted Flowers – April 6 from 1:30-4 p.m.; $40 fee. Make 3-D wet felted flowers with wool rovings,
silk rovings and embellishments.
• Creating Soap From Scratch – April 7 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.; $25 fee. Learn the cold process method,
safety when working with lye and about different types of soap-making oils to achieve a soap that
reflects your needs & desires.
• Stamped Cards and Papercrafts – April 10 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.; $20 fee. Make cards for birthdays,
weddings, sympathy thank-you, thinking of you. Make treat holder complete with treat; six projects using
a variety of techniques, glitz.
• Painting on the iPad – April 11 and 18 from 6-8 p.m.; $14 fee. Learn to create digital oil paintings on
your iPad. Cover basic tools and exercises in the 1st class; 2nd class, complete a finished drawing.
Beginners and advanced digital artists welcome.
• Needle Felted Baby Bunny – April 11 and 29, both classes from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Sculpt a sleeping, baby
bunny from one unit of wool roving.
• Beginner Basket Weaving – April 13 from 1-4:30 p.m.; $25 fee. Manual dexterity and strength in hands
required. Take home a finished muffin basket. Registration deadline is April 1.
• Nourishing a Healthy Heart – April 16 from 6-8 p.m.; $10 fee. Learn the surprising truth about
heart-healthy eating. How do fat and cholesterol fit in? Sample some heart-healthy treats.
• Grow Shiitake Mushrooms on Logs – April 18 from 12-3 p.m..; $35 fee. A slide-show presentation and
hands-on demonstration. All supplies included. Leave with a fully inoculated log that will produce
Shiitake mushrooms up to 5 years.
• Food and Botanicals in Soap – April 21 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Advanced soap-making. Create cold process
soaps with natural beauty from the addition of foods; cocoa powder, oatmeal, coffee and more. Make 2
pounds of soap to take home. Fee: $35.
• Beginner Basket Weaving II – April 22 from 5:30-9 p.m. Make an elbow basket, great for displaying dried
flowers or giving as a gift. Fee: $25.
• Organic Gardening 101 – April 23 from 6-8 p.m. Learn simple organic gardening techniques that will have
your neighbors wondering how your garden produce can look so great without using harmful pesticides and
herbicides. Leader: Sister Rita Wienken; fee: $10.
• Stained Glass Garden Butterfly – April 24 from 6:30-9:30 p.m.; $28 fee. Make a stained glass butterfly.
No experience needed, everything provided.
• Asia Lunch Special Meal – April 25 from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m.; $20 fee. Step-by-step lesson; meal included.
Dishes: Thai Spring Rolls, Thai Chiang Mai Chicken & Shrimp Pad Thai, TomYum Noodle Soup, Black
Bean Pastry. Leader: Ching Leong.
• Painting, Finishing Wood Carving – April 27 from 2-4 p.m.; $25 fee. Learn color choice, acrylics,
watercolors, stains and sealers. Create a basswood sampler for reference for future projects.
• Raku Pottery – April 28 from 5-9 p.m. Finish your pots in this Japanese style firing and enjoy a
potluck – bring a dish to share. Pre-requisite: taken the 577 Adult Pottery class and have 3-5 pots
already bisque fired.
• Beaded Gemstone Jewelry-Chain – April 30 from 6-8:30 p.m.; $30 fee. Incorporate chain into your beaded
necklace and earring set. Pick your own gemstones from a vast selection of beads.
