Ohio State University Extension Wood County is teaming up with Meijer Stores to offer a series of Dining with Diabetes classes starting next week.
Dining with Diabetes is a program for people with diabetes and/or their caretakers, or for those who want to learn to eat healthier.
The free series includes three classes, to be held Jan. 29, Feb. 5 and 12.
Classes will run from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Wood County Extension office at 639 S. Dunbridge Road, Bowling Green.  Participants must attend all three classes.
Class members will receive recipe booklets, information on cooking with low or no sugar, diabetic food preparations, a lecture from a registered dietician, and cooking demonstrations at each session.
“Never before have we had such a demand for these classes across the state, as Ohio and our country face many challenges with the growing diabetic epidemic,” noted Susan Zies, Wood County Extension Educator for family and consumer sciences.
This is what three previous participants had to say about Dining with Diabetes:
• “I have enjoyed the class very much. Learned a lot. It was really nice to be able to taste the food. Also enjoyed the interaction with class members.”
• “I loved the class – so glad I came. The food has been great.”
• “What a great class. Lots of good information regarding what to eat or not to eat, and how it affects your health. The food prepared for us was very good, healthy and tasty.”
People with diabetes, as well as their family members or caretakers, are encouraged to attend.  For more information or to register, call the Ohio State University Extension Office at 419-354-9050.  Seating is limited; registration will be on a first-come basis.
