Notice to the Public It was discovered, on March 22, 2013, that on March 19, 2013, radiology films being prepared for destruction by recycling were stolen from a records storage room at Wood County Hospital. These were films that had been taken prior to March 19, 2013 and had already been digitally converted into the hospital electronic records system. It is our belief that the films were stolen in order to recover the raw material, silver, from the film. The only way to obtain the silver would involve destruction of the films and, therefore, it is unlikely that the films still exist. Depending on the examination, the film contained patient name, medical record number, date of examination and in some cases date of birth. Films of approximately 2000 to 2500 individuals were stolen. Wood County Hospital is working collaboratively with the Bowling Green Police Department in solving this crime. Wood County Hospital internally has implemented corrective actions to increase film storage security in response to the theft. Wood County Hospital is not able to identify which patients' films were stolen and is, therefore, unable to contact patients directly to notify them. It is intended that this public notice serve as notice to patients. Individuals who believe they may have been affected by this theft may contact the following toll free number: 855-322-6427 if they have questions. May 10, '13
