Mental health recover educator Thelma Rist will speak in Bowling Green on Oct. 27.
Her presentation will be from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the basement Fellowship Hall of the Bowling Green First Presbyterian Church, 126 S. Church St. The talk is open to the public.
She will discuss the concept of recovery, recovery environments and programs, peer and family involvement, self-advocacy, responsibility and empowerment.
A question-and-answer period will follow her presentation.
She will be a guest of the Recovery-Resiliency Advocacy Committee, a group made up of mental health consumers, family members, and professionals that are planning to improve mental health programs in Wood County. The group is supported by the Wood County ADAMHS Board.
Rist is a graduate of Kent State University and the John Glenn Leadership Institute for Public Policy at Ohio State University. She has been an advisory member of the Community Education and Self-Advocacy Committee for the National Disability Rights Network in Washington. Rist is certified to teach several mental health recovery and empowerment programs.
