COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A new poll finds most Ohio voters know little or nothing about Gov. Ted Strickland's proposed rewrite of state education policy.

The phone survey conducted by the Quinnipiac (KWIN'-ih-pee-ak) University Polling Institute from April 28 to May 4 found 33 percent of poll respondents had heard or read "not much" about the plan, and 27 percent knew nothing.

Only 31 percent of the 1,079 voters polled said the plan will improve education in Ohio, with 29 percent saying it won't.

Strickland's plan involves increasing the state's share of school funding to lessen reliance on local property taxes. Nearly three-quarters of voters polled said they expect to pay more total taxes under the plan, though Strickland says he's not calling for a state tax increase.
