The Sentinel-Tribune is a family-owned newspaper in Bowling Green, Ohio, primarily serving Wood County, publishing six days a week. The Sentinel-Tribune was created as The Daily Sentinel-Tribune on Dec. 10, 1906 by the merger of The Sentinel and The Tribune. The Sentinel was founded as a weekly on Feb. 22, 1867 and became a daily newspaper in 1890. The Tribune was founded as both a daily and a weekly in 1892. Alfred Haswell became general manager of The Sentinel when he purchased one-third interest in the paper on June 21, 1899. The Haswell family has been involved in the operation of the paper ever since. The Sentinel-Tribune continues its tradition of emphasizing local news. The newspaper received the Ohio Associated Press General Excellence Award for newspapers in its circulation category in 2004 and 2005. Over the years the newspaper and its staff have received numerous awards from the Associated Press and other organizations. The Sentinel-Tribune’s honors include winning top honors in the Ohio Newspaper Advertising Association’s creative advertising contest, best non-core product judging and in the best vendor, tab or section competition. The newspaper’s circulation department has earned two significant statewide honors. Shirley Woessner was named Carrier of the Year in the senior division by the Ohio Circulation Managers Association in 2009.
