FINDLAY — With Bowling Green holding a 31-30 lead late in the first half, Findlay went on a 28-0 run to take control of the game Tuesday.
The Trojans, now 2-0, went on to post a 64-44 victory. It was BG’s season opener.
Bolstered by four 3-pointers, the Bobcats led 19-16 after the first quarter, and BG was still up 31-30 with 1:23 left in the first half. Findlay closed the half on a 6-0 run to take a 36-31 lead into the break.
BG was 10-of-23 from the field in the first half to stay close.
‘‘We were happy with our first half,’’ BG head coach Mark Malinowski said. ‘‘The truth is, what we did in the first half is things that we were actually prepared for.
‘‘We’re a very young team, and we’re very inexperienced,’’ he continued. “As a coaching staff, we really drill a lot fundamentally.’’

However, things fell apart for the Bobcats in the third quarter against Findlay’s 1-3-1 zone defense.
The Bobcats were scoreless in the quarter, going 0-of-11 from the field with five turnovers.
‘‘It would have been nice to have a little bit better offensive preparedness for their 1-3-1. As a coach, I will take the blame for that,’’ Malinowski said. ‘‘Certainly we had something in mind, but we didn’t drill at it, and we haven’t seen it enough this year. We played four scrimmages, and every possession in the four scrimmages had been man-to-man (defense).
‘‘It would have been nice if we would have had something a bit for that, but we were not ready to attack that.’’
BG’s shooting woes spilled over into the fourth quarter until Trent Hinton scored with 4:22 remaining in the game.
The Bobcats were scoreless for a span of 13:01, going 0-of-14 from the field, including 0-for-8 on 3-pointers, with eight turnovers.
‘‘In the third quarter, we did have a lot of open shots, just like we did in the first half,’’ Malinowski said. ‘‘When the ball is not going in, it’s going to look ugly.’’
The Bobcats did out-score the Trojans, 13-6 over the final 4:22 of the game.
Lamonta´ Stone led BG with 22 points.
‘‘I think you got a little taste of what you’re going to see for the rest of the season,’’ Malinowski said. ‘‘The guys know that for us to be successful with our lack of size, we have to play fast at the offensive end, as well as the defensive end.’’
BG played without junior returning letter winner Mitchell Gardner, who is sidelined with a broken hand. Also senior Cam Carsey suffered a broken nose in BG’s first scrimmage and was just recently cleared to play. Carsey is wearing a face mask to protect his nose.
Findlay’s starters accounted for 55 of its 64 points led by Adam Twining’s 15 points.
For the game BG was 14-of-46 from the field, including 7-of-21 on 3-pointers, and 9-of-11 from the free-throw line with 19 turnovers. Findlay was 26-of-58 from the field, including 3-of-19 on threes, and 9-of-13 from the free-throw line with 15 turnovers.
Bowling Green opens Northern Lakes League play Thursday at Southview.
Findlay won the junior varsity game, 62-32. Preston Morman scored nine points for BG and teammate Patrick Rothweiler added eight.
