Jeffrey Schorsch of Perrysburg finished second in the Division I sectional tennis tournament Saturday in Toledo, retiring in the first set of because of an injury during the championship match.
Schorsch, the top seed in the district, finished fourth in the state tournament last season.
Toledo Central Catholic's Dugan Delp, the No. 2 seed, won the sectional championship as a result of the default.
Schorsch was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over teammate Grant Laurer in the semifinals. In the other semifinal, Delp was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Perrysburg's Troy Weider.
In the third-place match, Weider was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Laurer.
Weider was the No. 3 seed, and Laurer was seeded fourth.
The top four finishers in both singles and doubles at the Toledo site and at Ohio Northern University qualified for this week's district tournament at Bowling Green State University.
At Ohio Northern University
In Ada, BG's Pablo Mateo and Ryan Motsinger posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over teammates Justin Overhulse and Austin Ezzone to finish third.
Mateo and Motsinger were seeded third, while Overhulse and Ezzone were seeded fourth.
In the semifinals, top-seeded Lucas Schaible and Reid Teatsorth of Findlay were 6-0, 6-0 winners against Overhulse and Ezzone, and second-seeded Max MacDonald and Steven Roland of Findlay were 6-2, 6-1 winners over Mateo and Motsinger.
In singles play, BG's Garrett Hammer, who was seeded third, lost twice.
Hammer was a 6-2, 6-1 loser to second-seeded Kevin Lewis of Findlay in the semifinals. Fourth-seeded Jacob Elbin of Findlay was a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 winner over Hammer in the third-place match.
