TONTOGANY — As soon as the ball left his fingertips, Elmwood’s Sebastian Baxter knew his half-court heave was good.
The senior guard’s basket gave the Royals an emotional 47-46 buzzer-beater victory over Otsego Wednesday.
“(The ball) was supposed to go to pretty much anybody but me,” Baxter said.  PHOTO GALLERY
In fact, the play coach Ty Traxler had drawn up was for Aaron Arnold to drive the lane for a layup or kick out to an available shooter. However, Otsego’s defense rendered Arnold unable to get free, which left Baxter open.
Stepping into his shot from just inside halfcourt, Baxter watched the ball sail into the net as time expired.
“As soon as it came off my fingertips, I knew it was good. But as soon as I shot it, I was looking around for a referee to make sure I got it off in time,” Baxter said.
