ROSSFORD –
Rossford’s boys basketball team hasn’t won a league championship since 1993.The Bulldogs believe their
drought could end this season. They return five lettermen from last season when they finished 9-5 in the
Northern Buckeye Conference.Among the returnees is 6-foot-1 senior forward Derek Mack, who averaged 15.0
points per game en route to earning first-team all-conference and all-district honors. The other lettermen
are seniors Mac Miller (5-10 guard) and Brian Burks (6-5 post); and juniors Ryan Niese (5-10 guard) and Nate
Childress (6-5 post).Otsego won the NBC last season with a 12-2 record, while Lake was second at
11-3.Rossford was 11-12 overall."The players have big hopes and big dreams, and they have a goal
collectively," said Rossford coach Brian Vorst, who is in his ninth season."We’re looking for a
good year. We have a good core of kids. The kids have worked hard this year."Rossford’s last league
title was won in the Northern Lakes League. The Bulldogs have been in the NBC since the fall of
2011."This is the first group that’s ever had a level of expectations," Vorst said. "They
expect to go out and beat somebody. They’re not interested in just going out and competing. They want to go
out and win."The Bulldogs believe they’ll have a good mix of experience and youth, inside and outside
scoring, and offense and defense."We’re going to get out in transition and we believe we have the depth
to do that," Vorst said. But the team’s success will start with defense, Vorst said."We need to be
good defenders and make it tough on our opponents," Vorst staid. "We’re going to pressure our
opponents."Also vying for playing time 6-4 senior Matt Enderbury, 6-0 sophomore Eric Davis, 6-4 junior
Marty Linthicum and 6-0 freshman Cota Sinclair."We have to be unselfish and develop chemistry, and work
the ball until we get a good shot," Vorst said. "We have to play for the team and each
other."
