Prep softball and baseball: Pitchers do well in NBC softball games (5-4-13)

In Northern Buckeye Conference softball play there were three
strong pitching performances by Wood County teams Friday.Hannah Gauthier pitched a three-hit shutout as
Rossford downed Lake, 5-0.Elmwood’s Miranda Benschoter pitched a no-hitter as the Royals blanked Genoa,
11-0 in five innings.Otsego’s Kylie Asmus pitched a two-hit shutout in a 2-0 win over

Gauthier struck out six and walked three.Kelly Swope was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the
Bulldogs and Mandi Longeway was 2-for-3. Rossford is 13-4 overall and 3-2 in the NBC.Kayla Encalado was
2-for-3 for Lake, now 8-9 overall and 2-4 in the NBC.Elmwood 11,Genoa 0, 5 inningsIn Genoa, Benschoter
struck out five and walked four to help Elmwood remain undefeated in league play. The Royals are 14-4
overall and 5-0 in the NBC.Brittany George, Katie Bottesch, Tori Hillard and Olivia Myers each had two
hits for Elmwood. Bottesch and Hillard each drove in three runs. Benschoter and George each hit a double
and Myers hit a triple.Otsego 2, Woodmore 0In Woodville, Asmus struck out 11 and walked two and had two
of Otsego’s five hits.Eastwood 14,Fostoria 3, 5 inningsIn Fostoria, Eastwood’s Ally Gabel hit two home
runs to help the Eagles down Fostoria. Eastwood, now 16-2 overall and 5-2 in the NBC, scored 10 times in
the top of the fifth inning. Fostoria is 2-14, 1-5.Other top hitters for Eastwood were: Diana Bushman,
2-for-4; Emily Helm, 3-for-4; and Cassidy Rolf, 2-for-4, double.Northwood 10,Bettsville 0, 5 inningsIn
Northwood, the Rangers improved to 9-9 overall with the non-league win.Top hitters for Northwood were:

0In Napoleon, Mark Delas pitched a one-hitter striking out four and walking two as Perrysburg blanked
Napoleon. The Yellow Jackets are 17-1 overall and 7-0 in the Northern Lakes League.Perrysburg has only
four hits with Steve Slocum and Spencer George each hitting a double. Slocum drove in two runs and Gus
Dimmerling had the other RBI.Eastwood 11, Fostoria 6In Fostoria, Eastwood pounded out 14 hits on the way
to the NBC win.The Eagles are 6-0 in the NBC and 13-3 overall.Mat Drown was 4-for-5 for the Eagles with
two doubles and two RBI while Jordan Luther and Skylar Dieker each had two hits.Chris Hampton had three
hits for Fostoria, including a double.Genoa 8, Elmwood 2In Genoa, the Comets pounded out 13 hits in the
