Perrysburg’s girls cross country team is headed to its sport’s showcase event.
The Yellow Jackets, ranked sixth in the pre-regional coaches poll, qualified for the Division I state meet by winning a regional championship Saturday at Hedges-Boyer Park in Tiffin.
Taylor Monheim and Courtney Clody both finished in the top 10 as Perrysburg won with 61 points, well ahead of runnerup Brunswick with 104.
Eastwood’s Hannah Sponaugle and Maddie Jackson qualified for state in the Division II girls race.
Three Wood County boys advanced to state in Division II — Otsego’s Brandon Avers, Lake’s Tyler Rickman and Eastwood’s Tim Hoodlebrink.
The top four teams and 16 individuals in each race qualified for the state meet this Saturday at National Trail Raceway in Hebron.
Monheim was third in 18:41, while Clody was eighth in 19:04. Both are seniors.
Completing Perrysburg’s top five were: junior Jordan Doore, 14th, 19:14; junior Emily Henry, 20th, 19:31; and freshman Grace Lahey, 24th, 19:39.
Bowling Green finished ninth with 255 points.
BG’s top five were: Sasha Lanning, 28th,19:46, Jenna Schonter, 38th, 20:04, Jessi Patton, 39th, 20:04; Natalie Applegate, 88th, 20:54; and Morgan Akenberger, 108th, 21:32.
Sponaugle, a freshman, was seventh in 19:25 and Jackson, a senior, was 10th in 19:32.
Eastwood finished seventh with 210 points and Otsego was 15th with 413.
Completing Eastwood’s top five were: Meagan Kaminski, 46th, 20:42; Ashley Madaras, 73rd, 21:27; and Lexi Clark, 96th, 22:17.
Otsego’s top five were: Dayna Fackler, 83rd, 21:49; Adeline Smith, 92nd, 22:05; Marisa DiBartolomeo, 93rd, 22:11; Allison Horen, 95th, 22:16: and Alison Graham, 101st, 22:33.
Rossford’s Jessica Pietrasz was 44th in 20:37.
Elmwood was 15th with 330 points.
Elmwood’s top five were: Emma Krassow, 51st, 21:27; Madison Sears, 80th, 22:02; Emily Tracy, 91st, 22:25; Alyssa Clack, 98th, 22:38; and Kelsey Bloom, 106th, 23:03.
Lakota’s Cariss Reese was 21st in 20:19 and Northwood’s Olivia Carbe was 57th in 21:37.
Perrysburg finished ninth with 234 points.
Perrysburg’s top five were: Bobby Borger, 34th, 16:32; Andrew Bayes, 42nd, 16:44; Parker Calvin, 67th, 17:01; Matt Studer, 70th, 17:04; and Anthony Glorioso, 75th, 17:12.
BG’s Lucas Overmyer was 65th in 17:01.
Avers, a junior, was fifth in 16:15. Rickman, a senior, was 11th in 16:33. Hoodlebrink, a junior, was 16th in 16:46.
Otsego was seventh with 169 points and Eastwood was 11th with 258.
Completing Otsego’s top five were: Seth Harnishfeger, 34th, 17:11; Caleb Baus, 36th, 17:17; Derek Morgan, 43rd, 17:20; and Garry Armstrong, 78th, 18:05.
Completing Eastwood’s top five were: Gabe Fredericks, 35th, 17:11; Noah Smith, 65th, 17:47; Josh Harper, 80th, 18:06; and Sam Church, 102nd, 18:44.
Lake’s Scott Brittenham was 70th in 17:53.
Elmwood finished 13th with 273 points.
Elmwood’s top five were: Cheyne Jenkins, 33rd, 17:21; Josh Mathias, 43rd, 17:29; Chris Goodrich, 69th, 17:56; Andrew Jasso, 87th, 18:10; and Matthew Wagner, 108th, 18:43.
Lakota’s Luke Baker was 78th in 18:02.
Toledo St. John’s 3,
Perrysburg 2 OT
At Southview High School, St. John’s scored with 11 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game, and then the Titans got the game-winner in overtime.
Aaron Davis and Logan Giesige scored for Perrysburg. Giesige’s goal with less than nine minutes remaining in regulation had put Perrysburg ahead 2-1 in the district final.
Maumee 3, Rossford 0
At Toledo Central Catholic, Maumee blanked Rossford in the district final.
The Bulldogs finish 15-4.
Maumee 5, Lake 0
At Lake High School, Maumee blanked the Flyers in the district final.
