Prep Roundup: Lake’s Wilker earns 500th win (04-25-14)

Lake baseball coach Greg Wilker reached a career milestone Thursday night as his team downed Port Clinton
19-4 in six innings and improved to 12-2 on the season.
Wilker, in his 30th year at the helm, achieved his 500th win. His career record is 500-309.
"It means I’ve been at it for a long time," said a humbled Wilker. "It rewarding because I
have three players on this year’s team who I coached their fathers.
"To me, as a coach, it is nice to see these kids I coached 25 years ago becoming good parents and
good husbands."
Wilker attributes his success to the Lake community as well as a strong assistant coaching staff and
support from administrators.
"I’ve been very fortunate for a number of reasons," he said. "Number one, the Lake
community. As soon as I got here, I knew how important baseball is to this community.
"I’m also very proud of the outstanding assistant coaches I have had over the years. They taught the
kids how to play the game the right way. I’ve been lucky enough to surround myself with good
people."
The Flyers pounded out 17 hits in the road win.
Top hitters for Lake were: Adam Duncan, 3-for-5, three RBI; Cody Witt, 3-for-5, RBI; Connor Bowen,
3-for-5, double, two RBI; and Joel Densic, 2-for-3, RBI.
North Baltimore 10, Hardin-Northern 2
In North Baltimore, Andrew Hollinger went the distance for the Tigers allowed five hits, two runs and
striking out five to help his team improve to 3-10.
Jacob Frost led North Baltimore at the plate with two singles, a double and four RBI. Zach Stewart had
three singles and an RBI and Sean Watson had a double.
Lakota’s Monroe pitchers no-hitter
In Rawson, Casey Monroe pitched a no-hitter to lead Lakota to a 21-0 five-inning win over Cory-Rawson.

Monroe faced just 17 batters, two over the minimum. He struck out six and walked one, and another hitter
reached on an error.
Lakota’s leading hitters were: Dakota Gilbert, 3-for-4, four runs, RBI; Madison Jaso, 2-for-3, double,
run, three RBI; Jacob Aaron, 2-for-3, run, three RBI; K.J. Berkley, 3-for-5, two doubles, triple, three
runs, three RBI; Jason Mason, 2-for-2, three runs, two RBI; and Jack Raymond, double.
SOFTBALL
Elmwood 5, Lakota 3
In Kansas, Miranda Benschoter gave the Royals a solid outing scattering six hits, walking none and
striking out four in five innings of work.
Offensively, Benschoter was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Other top hitters for Elmwood were: Rebecca Harvey, 2-for-4, triple; Madison Arnold, 2-for-4, two RBI;
and Chelsie Schmitz, 2-for-4, two RBI. The Royals are 9-2 overall.
Morgan Gangwer was 2-for-3 for Lakota and Sam Miller had a hit and three RBI.
North Baltimore 10, Hardin-Northern 1
In North Baltimore, Cheyenne Hernandez fanned 13 batters and was 2-for-3 with two RBI as the Tigers
improved to 5-6.
Other top hitters for the Tigers were: Hanna Brian, 3-for-4; Haleigh Fleck, 3-for-3, two doubles, three
RBI; and Makayla Rein, 2-for-3.

In Napoleon, the Wildcats won the Northern Lakes League match.

Eastwood finished with 71 points to win a triangular. Gibsonburg scored 51 points and Elmwood ahd 25.
Eastwood’s winners were: Andrews, discus (139-9); Salinas, 110 hurdles (17.22), 200 hurdles (28.59); 400
relay team of Vongphachahn, Garza, McCauley and Haar (51.9); Hahn, 400, (1:03); 800 relay team of
Andrews, Garza, McCauley and Vongphachahn (1:45); Slattman, 800 (2:41); Emahiser, 200 (25.35).
Aldaco won the 100 for Elmwood in 12.14.
GIRLS
Eastwood finished with 80 points to win a triangular. Elmwood scored 41 points and Gibsonburg had 34.
Eastwood’s winners were: Meyer, long jump (13-8 1/4 ), high jump (4-4); Lang, pole vault (7-6); Turk, 400
(1:08); 800 relay team of Bolton, Abke, Molina and Lang (2:03); Schroeder, 200 hurdles (32.8); Davidson,
800 (2:42); Swartz, 200 (29.15).
Elmwood’s winners were: Drees, 100, (14.05); Arnold, 1600 (6:08); 400 relay team of Drees, Hillard,
Parson and Semko (58.29); 1600 relay team of Arnold, Grossman, Coleman and Reinhard (4:49).
