Prep Roundup: Eastwood, Lake boys both win track titles (4-26-14)

Eastwood’s and Lake’s boys both won track and field championships Friday night.
Eastwood won its own Eastwood Relays, while Lake won the Gibsonburg Invitational.
EASTWOOD RELAYS
BOYS
In Luckey, Eastwood scored 144 points to defeat seven other teams. The Eagles were 50 points ahead of
runnerup Clyde.
Perrysburg was fourth with 63 and Bowling Green was sixth with 57.
Eastwood’s Devin Snowden won the triple jump and the long jump.
Snowden went 44-53?4 in the triple jump, breaking the record of 42-21?2 set in 2012. He went 21-111?2 in
the long jump.
Also for the Eagles, Joe Salinas won the 300 hurdles in 40.23 and Tim Hoodlebrink won the 1,600 in
4:34.70.
Eastwood also won the following relays:
• 3,200 — Gabe Fredericks, Tim Heinzelman, Sam Church and Tim Hoodlebrink, 8:27.99.
• 440 shuttle hurdles — Logan Baugher, Snowden, Salinas and Zach Jacoby, 59.90.
• 1,600 — Snowden, Tim Hoodlebrink, Fredericks and Brennan Seifert, 3:23.77, breaking the meet record of
3:25.76 set in 2007.
BG’s Nick Lane won the hammer throw with a distance of 167-4, breaking the meet record of 164-9 set in
2011.
Perrysburg’s 440 shuttle hurdles relay team of Adam Dunckle, Jon Rodgers, David Bonnough and Brandon
Lowery was second in 65.57.
GIRLS
Bowling Green was second with 92 points, finishing two ahead of third-place Eastwood.
Liberty-Benton won the eight-team meet with 100 points. Perrysburg was fourth with 71.
BG had two winners — Paige Dauterman in the shot put, 34-41?2; and Maria Horrigan in the pole vault,
12-61?4.
Eastwood s’ 3,200 relay team of Maddie Jackson, Meagan Kaminski, Sarah Bettinger and Hannah Sponaugle won
in 10:10.37.
Perrysburg’s Gabrielle Jett won the discus (114-10), and the Yellow Jackets won the 400 and 400 shuttle
hurdles relays.
The 400 team of Brittany Watson, Kayla Laumann, Katherine Diehl and Cameron Clark won in 52.43.
The 400 shuttle hurdles team of Amber Dunbar, Samantha Giglio, Julia Bragg and Alexis Dickinson won in
69.77.
GIBSONBURG
INVITATIONAL
BOYS
In Gibsonburg, in addition to Lake’s first-place finish with 149 points in the 10-team meet, Elmwood was
fourth with 97 points, Rossford was sixth with 57 points, North Baltimore was eighth with 20 points and
Northwood was 10th with eight points.
The Flyers won seven events, led by Scott Brittenham and Brandyn Neal.
Brittenham won two individual events and ran on two winning relay teams. He won the 800 (2:03.55).
Brittenham and Tyler Rickman were one-two in the 1,600, finishing in 4:43.0 and 4:50.59, respectively.

Lake’s Brandyn Neal and Brandon Knieriem were one-two in the 400, finishing in 51.63 and 52.47,
respectively, and Neal ran on three winning relay teams.
In the relays, the Lake 3,200 team of Orfrancis Ozuna, Nick Walters, Rickman and Brittenham won in
8:41.70; the 800 team of Marcel Bryan, Neal, Jace Basilius and Knieriem won in 1:36.07; the 400 ream of
Bryan, Nick Encalado, Storm Lutz and Neal won in 45.92; and the 1,600 team of Knieriem, Brittenham,
Rickman, and Neal win in 3:37.52.
Elmwood’s Sebastian Baxter won the shot put (46-41?4) and was second in the discus (132-8).
GIRLS
In Gibsonburg, Lake finished third in the 10-team event with 104 points. Elmwood was fourth with 97
points, Rossford was sixth with 48 points, North Baltimore was eighth with 42 points, and Northwood was
ninth with seven points. Gibsonburg won the meet with 123 points.
The Lake girls did not win an event, but Abbey Lowell in the 1,600 (5:57.31) and 800 (2:43.85); Lauren
Ozuk in the shot put (32.01?2 ); Katie Swartz in the 100 hurdles (17.33); and the 3,200 relay team of
Briana Trumbull, Marissa Boos, Olivia Bockey and Lowell (11:29.33) were all second.
Rossford’s Regan Clay won the 400 in a meet-record time of 57.14. The previous mark was 59.00 set in
2009.
Clay also won the 200 (26.07) and ran on the winning 800 relay team with Evylym Ohms, Taylor Stolar, and
Shelby Redway (1:51.70).
Elmwood’s Courtney Emmitt won the pole vault (9-10).
North Baltimore’s Lindsay Davis won the high jump (4-8).
SOFTBALL
BGHS 4, Perrysburg 3
In Perrysburg, Bowling Green scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings for a Northern Lakes
League win.
The Bobcats rallied after Perrysburg scored twice in bottom of the fifth to take a 3-2 lead.
Angie Hoffsis had three singles for BG, while Kelsey Parker and Reagan Morman both singled twice.
Perrysburg’s Taylor Tafelski hit a home run and Tylah Remaley doubled.
BG improved to 11-5 overall and 4-2 in the NLL, while Perrysburg is 5-9, 2-4.
Rossford 9, Genoa 0
In Rossford, Hannah Gauthier pitched a four-hitter as the Bulldogs improved to 10-4 overall and 3-2 in
the Northern Buckeye Conference.
The Bulldogs’ leading hitters were: Margo Jackson, 2-for-3, two RBI; Jessica Kulczak, 2-for-4; Lyndsey
Skala, two-run home run; Kelly Swope, double; and Maggie Lagey, two-run double.
TENNIS
BGHS 5, Wapakoneta 0
In Wapakoneta, BG won every match in straight sets to win its first-round match in the state team
tournament.
Junior high track
BOYS
Bowling Green beat Timberstone, but no score was reported. BG’s winners were: Baker, shot put, Fair, 110
hurdles; Nagle, 100; Applegate, 1,600; Steffen, 400, 200 hurdles; the 400 relay team of Hoehner,
Hassett, Nagel, and Powers; the 800 relay team of Hoehner, Hassett, Nagel, and Powers; and the 1,600
relay team of Fair, Applegate, Hoener, and Steffen.
Eastwood scored 65 points to finish third in the Whitmer Relays, while Bowling Green was fifth with 36
and Perrysburg was seventh with 26.
Eastwood’s winners were: the 800 team of Dalton Andrews, Antonio Salinas, Josh McCauley and Issac
Emahiser, 1:43.27; the 1,600 team of Emahiser, Jacob Hahn, Salinas and Billy Barker, 4:03.50; the 3,200
team of Hunter Slattman, Daniel Trombley, Hahn and Barker, 10:03.22; and the long jump team of McCauley,
Elijah Garza and Clayton Vonphachahn, 47-73?4.
Perrysburg’s 400 team of Spencer Murray, Spencer Backus, Majd Awad and Dylan Stiles won in 50.01.
BG’s 800 sprint medley team of Cam Nagel, Brian Dible, Blake Powers and Samuel Steffen won in 1:46.81.

GIRLS
Bowling Green beat Timberstone, but no score was reported. BG’s winners were: Atwood, discus; Lerch, high
jump; Woodmore, long jump; Overhulse, 400; Krupp, 800; Scheier, 200; the 40 relay team of Cable, Emans,
Shull, and Scheier; the 800 relay team of Emans, Hendricks, Bozzo, and Shull; and the 1,600 team of
Overhulse, Cable, Rothweiler, and Shull.
Eastwood scored 76 points to finish second in the Whitmer Relays, while Bowling Green was fifth with 31
and Perrysburg was sixth with 25.
The only winners from Wood County were from Eastwood — the 1,600 team of Abby Schroeder, Kelly Turk,
Amaya Molina and Jordan Davison, 4:42.22; the high jump team of Katelyn Meyer, Talia Barker and Reese
Delgado, 13-31?4; and the long jump team of Meyer, Chandler Davidson and Allison Abke, 40-81?2.
