A two-run fifth inning allowed Eastwood’s softball team to edge visiting Otsego 2-1 in the Northern Buckeye Conference opener for both teams on Monday.

Eastwood pitcher Whitney Foster fanned three and walked one. Eastwood collected three hits, including a double by Ally Gabel.
For Otsego, Savannah Schwind was 2-for-4 with a double and Kylie Asmus was 2-for-3.
Otsego was the coaches pick to win the NBC this season, while Eastwood is the defending conference champion.

Lake 11, Ottawa Hills 0,
5 innings
In Millbury, the Flyers pounded eight hits to improve to 3-3 overall.
Peyton Marchetto had a big day for Lake, striking out six and walking three. She was also 2-for-3 with a double. Teammate Allie Kontak also went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Elmwood 16, Gibsonburg 10
In Jerry City, Elmwood erupted for 21 hits on the way to a nonleague win.
Top hitters for Elmwood were: Rebecca Harvey, 5-for-5, with a double, home run and five RBI; Brittany George, 3-for-5 with a double, home run and two RBI; Olivia Myers, 3-for-5, with a home run; Katie Bottesch, 4-for-5 with two RBI; Madison Arnold 2-for-4 with a triple a two RBI; and Tori Hillard with a single, double and two RBI.
Miranda Benschoter pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts and one walk. She added a double and an RBI.

Perrysburg 7, Maumee 3
In Perrysburg, the Yellow Jackets opened Northern Lakes League play with a win over Maumee. Perrysburg is 2-6 overall.
Kayleen Jurski earned the win and went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.
Other top hitters for Perrysburg were: Katie Dunphy, single, home run and three RBI,   and Raegen Vickers who went 2-for-4.

Southview 5, BGHS 2
Sylvania Southview tallied 11 hits in an NLL game.
BG was held to three hits, including a double by Kelsey Parker.

North Baltimore 31,
Bettsville 0, 5 innings
In Bettsville, Ricci Emahiser hit her sixth and seventh home runs to give North Baltimore a victory in its Midland Athletic League opener. The Tigers are 5-4 overall.
Emahiser was 4-for-6 with two home runs and seven RBI.
Kelcie Bean recorded seven strikeouts for NB and also went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Other top hitters for NB were: Paige Cotterman, 2-for-3 with an RBI; and Haleigh Fleck, 3-for-3 with two RBI;.

Perrysburg 5, Maumee 0
Nick Munger pitched a shutout as Perrysburg won its NLL opener. The Yellow Jackets are 6-0.
Munger had six strikeouts, walked none and gave up six hits.
Spencer George had a double and two RBI, while Kyle Durham and Nick Fleming each singled and had an RBI.

Eastwood 8,
Cardinal Stritch 1
In Luckey, Eastwood pounded 11 hits to improve to 4-3 overall.
Jake Schmeltz collected the win for the Eagles while Todd Miller went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a run and an RBI.

Tiffin Columbian 4, Lake 3
In Millbury, despite out-hitting Tiffin Columbian 7-5, the Flyers dropped to 4-3 overall.
Top hitters for Lake were: Connor Bowen, 2-for-3; Cody Witt, 1-for-3 with an RBI; and Brad Ackerman, 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Lakota 13, Mohawk 7
In Kansas, Lakota improved to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in the MAL.
Lakota’s leading hitters were: Austin Payne, 1-for-4, run, two RBI; Nathan Ray, 2-for-4, two runs, two RBI; Tiger Jaso, 1-for-2, three runs, RBI; Jordan Jason, 2-for-4, run, four RBI; Nick Watts, 1-for-3, run, RBI; Gavin Sprow, 2-for4, run, two RBI; and Kody Brewer, 3-for-4, three runs.
Jordan Jaso hit a triple, while Payne, Ray, Tiger Jaso, Sprow and Brewer all doubled.

BGHS 3, Wauseon 2
In singles play, Ryan Motsinger and Garrett Hammer picked up singles wins for BG.
BG also picked up a doubles point with a win by Joe Buzzelli and Austin Ray.
