Prep Roundup: BG doubles teams advance to district (05-16-14)

Bowling Green’s doubles teams of Jacob Leader and Alex Messenger, and Austin Ezzone and Austin Ray
qualified for the Division I district tennis tournament during Thursday’s sectional at the Findlay YMCA.

Both BG teams received a first-round bye and posted a quarterfinal victory to advance to next week’s
district tournament at Bowling Green State University.
The top four finishers in both singles and doubles qualified for the district.
Leader and Messenger, the No. 4 seed, posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Wapakoneta’s Ben Schroer and Alex
Stinebaugh.
Leader and Messenger will play top-seeded Brent Gorman and Ian Laird of Findlay in the semifinals.
Ezzone and Ray, the No. 2 seed, posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Marion Harding’s Trent Ramsey and Nate Deprey.

Ezzone and Ray will play third-seeded Hyun Chul Lee and Logan Sullivan of Findlay in the semifinals.
In the singles draw, BG’s Matt Allen lost in the quarterfinals, and Eric Johnston and Stephen Kampf lost
in the first round.
The district concludes on Saturday with the semifinal, championship and consolation matches.

DIVISION I
Elmwood 5, Swanton 4
In Swanton, Jacob Wise put down a squeeze bunt to score Nick Gillette in the bottom of the seventh inning
to give Elmwood the win.
Elmwood trailed 4-2 going into the bottom of the seventh before rallying for three runs to earn the win.

The Royals, 10-12 overall, advanced to the district semifinals next Thursday at Defiance High School
against Lake.
Top hitters for Elmwood were: Wise, 2-for-4; and Tayte Lentz, single, RBI.
SOFTBALL
REGULAR SEASON
Lake 12, Central Catholic 1,

In Toledo, Lake took a 4-0 lead in the first two innings to improve to 11-13 overall.
Sydnee Behlmer picked up the win and also had two doubles and two RBI.
Other top hitters for Lake were: Peyton Marchetto, 4-for-4, four RBI; Allie Kontak, double; Megan
Williams, 2-for-3; and Emma Materni, 2-for-4.
