HOLLAND - Ninth-ranked Perrysburg moved one step closer to a Northern Lakes League volleyball championship Tuesday.
The Yellow Jackets posted a 25-21, 25-22, 19-25, 25-21 win at No. 14 Springfield to take a two-game lead in the league.
Perrysburg is 11-0 in the NLL, while Springfield is 9-2 and every other team has at least three losses. Three matches remain for each team.
Springfield is the defending league champion.
The Yellow Jackets can clinch no worse than a tie for the championship Thursday by winning at home against Northview.
Perrysburg is 17-2 overall, while Springfield is 16-3.
"A really, really good win for us," Perrysburg coach Jamie Babcock said. "This is what we've been working for the last four years.
"We're a well-rounded team, and that's what helped us tonight. We played well, and the players were incredibly focused. They were determined they weren't going to walk out of there without a win."
Audra Appold led Perrysburg with 19 kills, while Savannah Miller added 16.
"They were great," Babcock said. "They came through with some big-time shots."
Perrysburg's defense had almost 100 digs. Appold led the way with 21, followed by Chloe Matuga with 14, Madi Nitschke with 12 and Miller with 10.
"Our defense was very good and that's become our attitude," Babcock said. "The team has bought into playing good defense."
Matuga also had 41 assists and two aces, while Appold had three aces.
