With all six players earning all-league honors, it was truly a team effort as Perrysburg’s girls won the Northern Lakes League golf tournament and overall team title Tuesday at Riverby Hills Golf Club.
Led by Monica Dorner’s 79, the Yellow Jackets finished with a 343 total. Northview was second at 351.
In the regular season, Northview was 5-0 in dual matches and Perrysburg was 4-1.
A strong second nine made the difference for Perrysburg.
‘‘It just shows how hard we have all worked together, and we all keep improving as a team,’’ Dorner said about the strong finish. ‘‘We got off to a good start and then we had some trouble, but we kept pushing hard with our mental game, and we pulled it out.’’
Also for the Yellow Jackets, Katie Diehl had 86, Madison Williams shot 88, Sonia Krolak had 92, Macy Tudor shot 90, and Katie Krieger shot 100.
‘‘We didn’t necessarily have our best game today,’’ Perrysburg head coach Rick Rettig said. ‘‘The girls have learned through the season how to grind through tough rounds.
‘‘This was not an easy round and we didn’t necessarily have our best swings,’’ Rettig continued. ‘‘The girls did a great job of learning to not panic ... For me this is just a real tribute to how the girls have taken what we have learned throughout the season and put it together in a tournament.’’
Dorner was a repeat selection to the first-team. She was the medalist in 2012. Diehl and Williams were on the second-team and Krolak, Krieger and Tudor earned third-team honors.
‘‘Mentally we were at our strongest today. That’s what I am most proud of, how strong the girls were mentally,’’ Rettig said.
‘‘Our second nine is where we really won the match today,’’ Rettig added. ‘‘We talked about staying with our game plan. Our game plan was to play in front and make sure we two-putt absolutely everything that we can.’’
The overall league champion is determined by the regular season record, with each dual-meet win being worth two points, and points earned in the league tournament. Perrysburg finished with 32 points and Northview had 31.
‘‘We just went out and played our game, and we knew if we played our game, we would be able to compete with them (Northview),’’ Dorner said. ‘‘We all won as a team.’’
The Yellow Jackets won the tournament in 2011, and were third last season.
Bowling Green improved to a fourth-place finish with a 382 total in the tournament and 15 points in the overall standings. BG was last in the six-team NLL last season with a 442.
Paige Bulkeley, BG’s head coach, was unable to be with the team because of a family emergency.
Jim Amspoker, the boys junior varsity coach, was with the girls team Tuesday.
‘‘The girls didn’t seem to be bothered at all. I know most of them, whether I have taught them or whether I have been on the golf course as the JV boys coach,’’ Amspoker said. ‘‘They were very relaxed.
‘‘I was just here, basically, to drive the bus and keep the team spirits up.’’
Charlee Carroll led the Bobcats with an 87 and she was first-team All-NLL. Alisha Noon shot 93 and was a second-team all-league.
The all-league selections are made using a combination of scores during the regular season, and the finish in the league tournament.
Anthony Wayne’s Maria Connelly and Northview’s Kayleigh McHugh each shot a 76 to share medalist honors.
