SANDUSKY — Perrysburg’s Jeffrey Schorsh and David Hoops have both advanced to the semifinals of the Division I district tennis tournament.
The semifinals and finals are Saturday at Port Clinton with the top two finishers advancing to the state meet.
A freshman, Schorsh beat Northview’s Brandon Rachwal, 6-0, 6-1 and Mansfield Senior’s Jason Brunn, 6-2, 6-0 to advance to the semifinals. Schorsh faces Bobby Adumusilli from Toledo St. John’s.
Hoops, a junior, beat Madhav Mehta from Toledo St. John’s, 7-6(4), 6-3 and John Russell from Maumee, 6-1, 6-1 to advance. Hoops faces Lexington’s Nicky Wong in the semifinals.
In doubles play, Perrysburg’s Brad Merillat and Nate Mowery beat Anthony Wayne’s Austin Nofzinger and Dustin Kocol , 7-6(3), 7-6(3) in the opening round, but then lost to Lexington’s Jake Youse and Andy Barkett, 6-4, 6-2.
Bowling Green’s Alden Carney and Andrew Walterbach lost to Toledo St. Francis’ Sam Unnerstall and Jake Lenz, 6-0, 6-2 in the opening round.
