MILLBURY — Lake High School is looking for a new head football coach.
Flyers’ head coach Bob Olwin has resigned after only one season to become the head coach at Ada High School.
But Olwin said Friday night he didn’t resign solely to take the position at Ada.
Olwin said his resignation was for “personal reasons, a combination of a lot of different things.” He declined to be specific.
Lake was 4-6 overall and 3-4 in the Northern Buckeye Conference last fall.
“It’s always a tough decision when kids are involved,” Olwin said. “The administration at Lake was very, very good to me. The kids at Lake are very, very good kids. That’s the worst part of all this.
“The kids at Lake are resilient and they’ll bounce back from this. We made some progress and I wish them nothing but the best.”
Olwin replaced Bob Abbey, whose contract wasn’t renewed after the 2011 season.
The Flyers were 21-29 overall and 12-11 in league play under Abbey.
Lake athletics director Dave Shaffer couldn’t be reached for comment Friday night.
Olwin replaced Mike Fell at Ada. Fell resigned to become the head coach at Lima Senior.
Last season, Ada was 10-2 and ranked fifth in the final Division VI poll. It lost in the second round of the state playoffs.
With 31 years in football, Olwin has won 10 conference championships and participated in the state playoffs seven times. He has taken three different schools to the state playoffs, Versailles, Fairview and Tiffin Calvert.

One year wonder, I thought last season he said he was going to stay and make Lake contender for years. Got tried losing by 50 to Genoa and Eastwood and didn't want to play defense in the NBC. I got to believe Ada is a down grade to Lake. Olwin is all about himself.

Why would you believe this? I went to school at ONU. Nice small college town, new school, and they have been one of the powers in their division for many years straight now.

ADA is a great place to live. What college is in your town? Don't knock our town that just shows how ignorant you are! I am sure you know nothing about Ada!

Olwin is an excellent pick for Ada. Schools need more coaches like Olwin. I wish him and his new team the best for their first season. I know family will be glad he is closer to home so they can make the games to help support him.
