Northwood’s Justin Rohrs turned in a strong relief outing to help the Rangers slip past rival Ottawa Hills, 8-6 Friday evening in a Division IV district baseball final at Findlay High School.
The Rangers, 17-10 overall, face Delphos St. John’s Thursday at Patrick Henry High School starting at 2 p.m.
Rohrs pitched 5 1/3 innings of relief, allowing two earned runs on five hits. He walked five and struck out six.
“He did a great job,” Northwood coach Dave Russell said. “He threw strikes and gave our defense a chance to make plays.”
The Rangers scored seven times in the first three innings.
John Segura was 2-for-4 with two RBI for Northwood while Evan Perkins also had two RBI and Nick Russell scored two runs.
“Everybody on the team did something to help us win and every one of our seniors contributed,” the elder Russell said. “It was a great team win.”
Geoff Beans had two hits and two RBI for Ottawa Hills.

The Rangers had lost to Ottawa Hills in a district final last season, and twice in Toledo Area Athletic Conference play this season.
“When we’ve played them before, we’ve been a little too tight,” coach Russell said. “But this time, we made things a lot lighter, a lot more fun and it paid off. We’re playing well and our guys don’t want the season to end. They want to keep playing for a couple more weeks.”
