NB sports to play in two leagues (12-20-12)

North Baltimore has plans to be a part of two leagues for all sports except football
starting in the 2014-2015 school year. The plans are dependent on league
realignments, but if all goes well, North Baltimore plans to participate in both
the Blanchard Valley Conference and the Midland Athletic League for all
non-football sports. Football would compete solely in the BVC."This all
really depends on what route the MAL goes," said North Baltimore Athletics
Director Bradlee Rowlinson."But, at this time, the MAL has invited us to
stay," he said.Rowlinson said North Baltimore’s continued membership in the
MAL would depend on how many teams, if any, are added to the remaining schools
and what direction the MAL takes."If everything stays as is, we would
join," Rowlinson said. Both North Baltimore and Hopewell-Loudon have
previously agreed to join the BVC in 2014-2015 for all sports. Other MAL member
schools, Seneca East, Mohawk and Carey, will join the newly formed Northern 10
Athletic Conference. The Northern 10 will be a combination of those MAL schools,
as well as schools from the North Central Conference and Mid-Ohio Athletic
Conference. The North Baltimore school board, this summer, approved an invitation
to join the BVC and last month agreed to apply for continued membership in the
MAL for all of its other sports.Being a part of both leagues would be
advantageous for North Baltimore."Our athletes would be playing for two
championships," Rowlinson said.If North Baltimore is unable to continue
competition in the MAL, Rowlinson said, "We’d be disappointed, but we
understand they have to look at what’s best for themselves, too."And, he
said, if the MAL changes form, Rowlinson said North Baltimore would continue its
relationship with existing MAL member schools in non-league form as much as
possible.
