The Flyers were 8-3 overall and 5-2 in the Northern Buckeye
Conference during Emans’ first season after going 4-6, 3-4 in 2012.Lake also advanced to the state playoffs
where it lost to fourth-ranked Caledonia River Valley in the first round. The Flyers’ other losses were to
Genoa and Eastwood, the top two teams in the NBC. Eastwood and Genoa were state-ranked and advanced to the
playoffs.Lake was ranked 18th at one point during the season.“The kids did an outstanding job, and we have
great kids and great assistant coaches,” Emans said. “I can’t say enough good things about them, and the
administration has been so supportive of the program. The award just represents the hard work that everyone
has put in.”Lake’s assistant coaches were Greg Wilker, Dave Rymers, Josh Andrews, Kevin Mermin and Jason
Schober.“They were an outstanding staff and I hope we can stay together for a lot of years,” Emans said.
“They’re great coaches, but they’re also great people.”Emans shared the award with Mark Iammarino of Chagrin
Falls, Kris Ketron of Germantown Valley View, Doug Green of River Valley, and Tony Lee of Wooster Triway. The
Flyers’ 8-2 regular season was their first since 2001, which also was the last time they made the
playoffs.Lake figures to be strong again next season as it only graduates three starters on both offense and
defense.“Most importantly for next season, we have to stay hungry and focused, and we can’t become
satisfied,” Emans said. “It’s easy to remain motivated when you’re striving to attain something. But once
you attain it, you have to stay focused and continue to improve. We have a lot of aspects of our game that
we can be better at.”In Division V, Eastwood senior lineman Michael Glaze was a second-team choice on
defense. The Eagles had two special-mention picks, senior Jacob Rahe and junior Grant Geiser. The All-Ohio
teams are selected by members of the media, but the Sentinel-Tribune doesn’t have a vote in the process. The
