SYLVANIA - Perrysburg's girls soccer team is used to dominating matches.
However, it is not used to dominating, yet still falling short.
The Yellow Jackets, seeking their fourth consecutive district title, could not capitalize when they needed to the most, resulting in a 1-0 loss to Anthony Wayne Saturday afternoon in a Division I district final at Timberstone Junior High.  PHOTO GALLERY
The 13th-ranked Generals (13-3-2) will play No. 5 Notre Dame in a regional semifinal Tuesday at Lake High School.
No. 11 Perrysburg held a 16-7 advantage in shots, but had two balls go off the frame of the goal and had nothing to show for it, as it ends its state championship-defending season 13-3-3 overall.
"We're disappointed," said Perrysburg co-head coach Jorge Diaz. "We dominated the first half and then gave up that goal. ... We were a little bit impatient. But we didn't play our best game today."
After numerous Perrysburg scoring opportunities were denied, AW capitalized on its third shot of the match.
With 2:45 remaining in the first half, AW senior Jesse Mattimoe took a pass from Sydney Herrington and netted the right-footed shot over a stretching Sarah Baer from about 24 yards out.
It was all AW needed with the goalkeeping efforts of Taylor Hill, who has allowed just nine goals this season including four in the previous 13 matches.
AW has not lost since Aug. 26, which includes a 1-1 tie with Perrysburg on Sept. 11.
"Taylor Hill made some nice saves; the same way that we had Chloe (Buehler) last year," Diaz said. "What comes around goes around sometimes and maybe somebody else needs the credit this year."
Hill deflected a potential game-tying goal by Abby Sattler who sent in a shot from 25 yards from the right side with 16:50 left in the match. The shot to the top-left corner of the goal was save by the fingertips of a leaping Hill.
"It was a great save. The kid is a great athlete," Diaz said. "I was hoping that was the equalizer to give us an opportunity to go further than this."
The 'Jackets had another chance with 1:50 left when Lucy Walton had her shot stopped, and then with Hill out of position another shot was blocked by AW defenders in front of the net, sealing the General win.
"We dominated the game in terms of shots on goal and things like that, but the bottom line is they put a goal away and we just couldn't," said Perrysburg co-head coach Margaret Bernard.
