Former Bowling Green High School boys basketball coach Von Graffin will be named the head boys basketball
coach at Port Clinton Monday night.
Graffin is a 1979 graduate of Port Clinton. Port Clinton officials announced Graffin’s hiring Friday. The
district’s board of education will approve the hiring at its meeting Monday night.
Graffin was BG’s head coach for 11 seasons before his contract was non-renewed last summer.
Graffin was 148-94 overall and 111-43 in the Northern Lakes League at BG. The Bobcats finished first or
second in the NLL seven times and never finished lower than fourth.
“When Pat (PC superindtendent Adkin) asked if I wanted to come home, it brought tears to my eyes,”
Graffin told the Port Clinton News Herald. “The facilities in Port Clinton are very impressive and I
can’t wait to work with the kids. I am so excited to come and share what I have learned in the past 35
years since I left Port Clinton.”
Graffin will replace Troy Diels, who resigned after nine seasons. Diels will remain in the PC district as
an assistant principal at the middle school.
The Redskins were 8-12 overall and 3-11 in the Sandusky Bay Conference last season.
“It was very clear during the interview process that coach Graffin has always kept close tabs on his alma
mater and followed the Redskins’ basketball program,” PC principal Gary Steyer told the News Herald.
“Our student-athletes will be eager to play for coach Graffin and we can’t wait to welcome him back to
Port Clinton.”
“We hated to see Troy Diels go and knew we needed to bring in a great coach. Von is that coach,” PC
athletics director Rick Dominick told the News Herald.
