A junior, George was one of eight athletes from Wood County high schools to earn All-Ohio honors. George, an honorable mention pick last season, hit .455 with 28 RBI, 28 runs scored, 21 extra base hits, including 16 doubles and three home runs, and six stolen bases this season. Earning second-team honors were Perrysburg senior catcher Kimmy Granata in Division I; Eastwood junior pitcher Whitney Foster in Division III; and Lakota senior pitcher Abby Durst in Division IV. Granata hit a school-record .523 with 20 extra-base hits, including seven home runs, and drove in 38 runs. She scored 23 runs and had five stolen bases. Foster was 21-3 with a 0.95 earned-run average with 135 strikeouts in 162 innings. She also hit .353 with 23 RBI, 22 runs scored and seven stolen bases. Durst was 14-4 with a 1.35 earned ERA with 123 strikeouts in 119 1/3 innings. Earning honorable mention honors were: Rossford sophomore catcher Margo Jackson in Division II; Lake senior third baseman Megan Schnell and Northwood senior outfielder/infielder Cindy Szyperski in Division III; and North Baltimore junior catcher Ricci Emashier in Division IV. Jackson hit .542 with 40 RBI, 27 runs scored and 12 stolen bases in addition to 20 extra-base hits. Schnell batted .488 and had 14 extra-base hits. She scored 28 runs and had 26 RBI with 10 stolen bases. Szyperski hit .560 with 52 RBI and 21 extra-base hits, including five home runs. She scored 41 runs and had six stolen bases. Emhaiser hit .423 with 27 RBI, 23 runs scored, nine extra-base hits and eight stolen bases. In addition Toledo Central Catholic's senior pitcher Erin Seiler, a Bowling Green resident, was a first-team selection on Division I. Seiler had 343 strikeouts this season. |
