Zach Foster pitched a six-hitter and Elmwood stroked 11 hits Friday on the way to a 9-1 win over Woodmore in a Northern Buckeye Conference baseball game at Carter Park.
Foster struck out six and walked none.
The right-hander had an excellent fastball and used his curveball when needed.
“He’s one of my best competitors. We knew he was going to get it done,” Elmwood coach Kyle Reiser said.
The Royals took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first and added two runs in the second after Woodmore scored its only run in the first.
Eight different players accounted for Elmwood’s 11 hits, including Foster, Garrett Benschoter and Phillip Buckingham with two singles each.
Austin Hoiles added a double and three RBI for the Royals. Five different players scored Elmwood’s runs and six players had an RBI.
The Royals hit the ball hard and also drew nine walks.
“We were a lot looser tonight,” Reiser said. “We worked hard on our swings (Thursday) in practice. They swung the bats very well.
“This is a great place to play. We’ve been looking forward to coming here all season and playing. We don’t get a chance to play under the lights very often and we were able to take advantage of it. They were fired up and ready to play.”
The Royals were sharp defensively with just one error and made a number of nice plays in both the infield and the outfield.
Woodmore pitcher Ty Burner was taken to the hospital after being hit in the knee area by a line drive in the fifth inning. A school spokesman said the bone in the area of the knee was believed to be broken.
