He pitched a four-hitter Saturday night to lead Elmwood to a 2-1 victory over Bowling Green in a nonleague game at Carter Park.
The junior struck out three and walked one to help Elmwood improve to 8-5 overall.
The Royals scored single runs in the third and fifth before BG tallied its only run in the sixth.
Langlass earned the start against BG (10-4) by pitching well in four innings of relief last Monday against Fostoria.
He allowed four singles in four different innings by four different players against BG.
“That’s one of the best pitched games we’ve had in a long time,” said Elmwood coach Kyle Reiser, who earned his 500th career win Friday night in a 9-1 win over Woodmore at Carter Park.
“He was really raw when we got him, but he’s worked hard on things. He’s just gotten better and better and better.”
Reiser praised long-time assistant coach Dwight Lee, who handles the team’s pitchers, and first-year assistant coach Patrick Martin for Langlass’ improved mechanics.
Martin played collegiately at BG where he was a left-hand pitcher.
“That’s the final piece of the puzzle for him, the confidence,” Reiser said. “It’s just sort of clicked for him. He’s developed a real good work ethic. He’s soaking things up like a sponge. I’m really happy for him. He loves the game.”
The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder was effective with a fastball and a changeup.
“I went after the hitters and tried to keep them off-balance,” said Langlass, who threw 55 of his 87 pitches for strikes.
Reiser went to the mound to talk to Langlass after BG’s Jeremy Chambers ripped a single off the glove of Elmwood second baseman Caleb Reynolds with one out in the seventh.
Reynolds  nearly made a terrific leaping backhanded catch, but the ball tipped off the top of his glove and fell to the grass.
“There was no way I was going to take him out,” Reiser said. “It was his game to finish. When I got out there, he was like go back to the dugout, I’ve got this under control and I’m going to come after them. He has a great mentality. He takes the ball and comes at you. He couldn’t have handled tonight any better.”
The Royals complemented their pitcher with excellent defense and timely hitting.
The game ended with Elmwood turning a double play, started by Reynolds, who made a nice scoop in the dirt of a sinking liner and then throwing for the first out to shortstop Zach Foster, who then fired to Austin Hoiles at first to end the game.
Elmwood center fielder Jacob Wise also made a diving catch in the right-center field gap to rob BG of a double to start the fifth.
The Royals had only one error, Langlass’ dropped popup to lead off the fourth.
“Our defense was great,” Langlass said.
Elmwood took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third with the help of two BG errors, the second coming with two out on a ground ball to shortstop that allowed the run to score.
The Royals made it 2-0 in the fifth on Wise’s RBI double that scored Langlass, who had bunted into a fielder’s choice.
Wise, who singled in the third, flared the double down the left-field line that Quinn Donaldson almost made an outstanding diving catch on.
BG scratched out a run in the sixth, but couldn’t tie the game.
“We had timely hitting, and solid pitching and defense — you get those three things, you’ll win every time,” Reiser said.
Trey Walker and Mitchell Cromley pitched a four-hitter for BG, striking out six.
The Bobcats left a runner in scoring position in four different innings.
“They got the timely hits and we didn’t,” BG coach Robert Yenrick said. “We booted two balls. We can’t blame anyone but ourselves.”
