Two athletes from Wood County high schools competed in the preliminaries of the state high school swimming and diving championships Thursday at Branin Natatorium in Canton.
In the Division II boys meet, BG's Trae Gulgin tied for 11th in the 100 backstroke in 54.38.
Gulgin will swim tonight in the consolation finals.
The top eight finishers advanced to the championship finals, while the ninth- through 16th-place finishers swim in the consolation finals.
In the Division II girls meet, Eastwood's Alyssa Decker finished 17th in the 200 individual medley in 2:13.47 and 19th in the 100 butterfly in 60.12.
BG's Emmy Sehmann swims in the Division I prelims of the 100 freestyle and the 200 freestyle today. She's seeded sixth in both events.

North Baltimore 66,
Lakota 54
In Kansas, North Baltimore out-scored Lakota 22-9 in the fourth quarter on the way to the Midland Athletic League win.
NB's Tyler Trumbull scored 25 points and had 12 rebounds while Chad Wright scored 19 points.
Colin Timmons led Lakota with 17 points.
NB is 9-12 overall and 3-6 in the MAL while Lakota is 8-13, 1-8.

Bowling Green High School is having student fan buses for the Bobcats’ tournament games Saturday.
The girls basketball team plays Port Clinton in a sectional final at Old Fort at 6:15 p.m.
The hockey team plays Northview in a district semifinal at Sylvania Tam-O-Shanter at 7:30 p.m.

FOSTORIA — For Perrysburg’s girls basketball team to make another tournament run, there is no doubt it will need to improve upon its Wednesday night performance against Marion Harding. PHOTO GALLERY
The sixth-ranked Yellow Jackets showed flashes of brilliance in their 67-24 Division I sectional semifinal win over the Presidents at Fostoria High School. But they also showed signs of complacency, leading to an early scare.
“Once we got into a little bit of a rhythm we played pretty well at times, for most of the game,” Perrysburg coach Todd Sims said.
Perrysburg, 20-3 overall, will play Clay in a sectional final on Saturday night at Fostoria. Tipoff is at 8 p.m.

Rossford boys keep title hopes alive

Rossford's boys basketball team kept its hopes for a share of the Northern Buckeye Conference title alive with a 50-48 win over Eastwood Wednesday night.
In a Division IV girls sectional game it was Cardinal Stritch 39, Lakota 32, and in a Division I game it was Perrysburg 67, Marion Harding 24..

Rossford 50, Eastwood 48
In Luckey, Rossford held a 41-25 lead after three quarters, out-lasting a 23-9 fourth-quarter advantage for Eastwood.
Brian Burks led the Bulldogs (14-4, 11-2) with 15 points, while Mack Miller added 13.
Jake Schmeltz led Eastwood (15-6, 9-4) with 22 points, including four 3-pointers.

Eastwood and Otsego recorded nonleague boys victories Tuesday.
The Eagles used free throws to beat Toledo Christian, 56-49 and Otsego had two players combine for 54 points in a 68-58 win over Delta,.
In another boys nonleague game, Old Fort beat Northwood, 73-43.
In girls sectional play it was: Bowling Green 65, Eastwood 32 in Division II; Bluffton 51, Elmwood 45, Swanton 53, Otsego 27, and Evergreen 74, Northwood 25 in Division III; and Miller City 44, North Baltimore 43 in Division IV.

Evergreen 74, Northwood 25
In Millbury, Evergreen scored 42 points in the first half.
Northwood finished 5-18.

Swanton 53, Otsego 27
In Millbury, Madeline Asmus scored 10 points for Otsego (10-13).

Bluffton 51, Elmwood 45
In Riverdale, Bluffton led 29-21 at the half and held on for the win.
Kristen Curtis scored 20 points for the Royals (16-6).
