TIFFIN — Bowling Green’s softball team is playing well at the right time.
The Bobcats — who have just four regular-season wins — earned a berth in a  Division I district championship game Tuesday.
Hanna Williford pitched a six-hitter and struck out nine to lead BG to a 7-1 win over Fremont Ross in a district semifinal at Tiffin University.
The Bobcats had nine hits and never trailed or were tied again after taking a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
Emily Sidle and Angie Hoffsis each had two hits, including a two-run double by Sidle. BG played errorless defense.
The Bobcats, 6-18 overall, face Anthony Wayne or Ashland for the district championship Saturday at noon.
The AW-Ashland game is Wednesday night at 5.
Ross is 15-13.
“We played a great game,” BG coach Jim Cress said.
Williford kept the Little Giants off-balance by changing speeds, moving the ball around the strike zone and using both sides of the plate.

There was no letdown by the Elmwood Royals.
One day after winning the Northern Buckeye Conference championship, the Royals were back on the diamond Tuesday in a Division III district semifinal softball game against Gibsonburg at Bowling Green High School. PHOTO GALLERY
Behind the strong pitching of sophomore Miranda Benschoter, Elmwood posted a 7-0 shutout to advance to the district championship game Saturday at noon at BGHS. The Royals face the winner of Wednesday’s Eastwood-Evergreen game.
‘‘We were ready to play. We knew they would be coming at us because we beat them earlier this season,’’ Elmwood senior Brittany George said.
George said that head coach Matt Hoiles did not say anything about a possible letdown and that the seniors and captains made sure everything was upbeat before the game.
Benschoter allowed only two hits and one walk while striking out 11 in recording the shutout.

JERRY CITY — For Matt Hoiles, it’s all about the players who have come through the Elmwood softball program in his 14 years as head coach.
Those players, under the tutelage of Hoiles and his assistant coaches, have now recorded 300 wins.
Victory No. 300 came Monday, 14-3 over Rossford, in a game called after 4 1/2 innings due to the mercy rule. The victory also cinched the Northern Buckeye Conference title for Elmwood.
‘‘It’s something that I look back and I see faces from the first team (in 2000) — Erin Hammer, Melissa Reynolds, April Bils, Meredith Feasel,’’ Hoiles said. ‘‘To start out with 23 wins in that first year for me, that jump-started my career here.
‘‘Every year there are those faces and people who have contributed and helped get a lot of these wins,’’ Hoiles continued. ‘‘To get 300, it’s about the kids ... For just about every win, I can see faces in my mind.’’

Perrysburg’s baseball team enhanced its already impressive résumé Monday.
Mark Delas had four hits and four runs batted in, and A.J. Stockwell pitched a three-hitter to lead the Yellow Jackets to an 8-1 victory over Bowling Green in a Northern Lakes League game. PHOTO GALLERY
The win, coupled with Anthony Wayne’s 12-11 loss to Maumee, gave the fifth-ranked Yellow Jackets no worse than a tie for the league championship.
Perrysburg is 12-1 in the NLL with one game remaining, and can wrap up its second league title in the last three seasons by beating Springfield.
The Perrysburg-Springfield game is scheduled for Saturday at Fifth Third Field in Toledo, but will be rescheduled if the Yellow Jackets beat Mansfield Madison in a district semifinal Thursday at Carter Park. The district final also is Saturday.
AW, a 3-2 winner at Perrysburg Friday, finished 12-2 in the NLL and needs a Yellow Jacket loss to Springfield to share the championship.
