Prep Track: Eastwood boys finish first at Napoleon (04-21-14) PDF Print E-mail

Eastwood's boys track and field team finished first in seven events Saturday to win the Napoleon Invitational.
The Eagles totaled 157.5 points to finish well ahead of runnerup Archbold with 105.5 in the eight-team meet.
Perrysburg was fourth with 88 and Bowling Green was seventh with 30.
Eastwood won four individual events - Devin Snowden in the 110 hurdles (14.92) and the long jump (22-1), Tim Hoodlebrink in the 800 (2:03.38), and Joe Salinas in the 300 hurdles (39.46).
Salinas' time broke the meet record of 39.60 set in 2012.
Eastwood won three relays.
The 400 team of Grant Geiser, Ben Church, Brennan Seifert and Jake Hoodlebrink won in 44.87.
The 1,600 team of Gabe Fredericks, Snowden, Noah Smith and Jake Hoodlebrink won in 3:30.20.
The 3,200 team of Fredericks, Smith, Sam Church and Tim Hoodlebrink won in 8:17.92.
Perrysburg's 800 relay team of Sam Testen, Roland MacCarthy, Joshua Haynes and Chris Klammer won in 1:34.78.
BG's Nick Lane was third in discus (134-7).

Noah Asmus and Spencer Shultz combined on a four-hitter to lead Rossford's baseball team to a 4-1 win Saturday over Swanton and a split of the nonconference doubleheader.
Swanton was a 6-0 winner in Game 1.
In the second game, Rossford scored three times in the second inning to open a 3-0 lead.
Shultz was 2-for-3, while Asmus hit a two-run single in the second inning.
In the first game, Rossford's Erik Davis was 2-for-2 and Asmus doubled.
Rossford is 4-4 overall.

Elmwood 4, Northwood 2
In Northwood, Trevor Solether pitched a four-hitter and Elmwood built a 3-0 lead over the first 3 innings.
Elmwood's Jacob Wise was 2-for-3.

Elmwood defeated Pickerington Central, 3-2 Friday. The Royals are 10-0 overall.
Madison Arnold and Jasmine Marsh each had two hits for the Royals while Rebecca Harvey and Marsh each hit a double.

SOFTBALL
Lake 9, Genoa 8
In Genoa, Lake held on to beat Genoa in a Northern Buckeye Conference game Friday, The Flyers are 4-5 overall and 1-1 in the NBC.
Megan Williams was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI for Lake and winning pitcher Syndee Behlmer was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

BASEBALL
Perrysburg 5, Southview 1
In Sylvania, Perrysburg scored five times in the final two innings on the way to the Northern Lakes League win.
Top hitters for Perrysburg were: Trevor Hafner, 2-for-3, double; Mark Delas, 2-for-4, double; and Zach Honsberger, 2-for-4.

PERRYSBURG — Wrestling has opened a career path for Rocco Caywood.
Caywood, a senior at Perrysburg High School and a state champion, signed his national letter of intent Thursday to attend the U.S. Military Academy to continue his academic and wrestling careers. He will be on a full scholarship.
‘‘He made the right choice in where he’s going, and what he’s doing,’’ said Sam Cotterman, Perrysburg’s head wrestling coach. ‘‘He’s looking at the next 30 years of his life, not just the next four or five.’’

BG baseball defeats Otsego, Napoleon

Bowling Green's baseball team improved to 10-3 overall with an 11-0, five-inning win over Otsego Thursday.
Andy Fisher led the Bobcats with three hits and three RBI. Other top hitters for BG were: Ricky Riggs, two hits, two RBI; Mitch Cromley, two hits; Jeremy Chambers, two RBI.
Otsego was held to one hit by BG pitchers Jack Schaller and Hogan Pash.
On Wednesday, Fisher and Cromley pitched a two-hitter in a 2-0 win over Napoleon.
They combined to strikeout 10 and walk four, with Fisher getting nine of the strikeouts over the first 52‚Ñ3 innings.
The Bobcats, who had just three singles, scored in the third and fourth innings. BG is 2-1 in the Northern Lakes League.

Eastwood 13, Start 3, 6 innings
In Toledo, Eastwood's Jake Schmeltz picked up the win and went 3-for-4 with four runs scored Thursday.

Lake 10, Waite 0, 5 innings
In Millbury, a big-fourth inning enabled Lake to improve to 9-2 overall.
Jayce Vancena was 2-for-3 for Lake with two RBI.
