PERRYSBURG — Composed is a simple, yet effective way to describe Perrysburg’s boys basketball team just three games into the season.
For the second time in as many games the Yellow Jackets handled adversity late — this time resulting in a 59-50 win over Springfield, the Northern Lakes League’s preseason favorite to win the league.
Perrysburg, 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the NLL, hung on for a 50-46 win at Napoleon last week, largely in thanks to two late 3-pointers.
But against Springfield, Perrysburg didn’t need long-range shots. Instead it had to rely on the free throws.
Scrambling to hold a 41-34 lead entering the fourth quarter, the ’Jackets showed poise and composure against a high-energy Springfield defense.
Perrysburg, Nick Moschetti in particular, handled the defense without flinching and went 12-of-16 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter. The Jackets’ were 8-for-14 in the first three quarters.
